Fading Suns is based on the tabletop of the same name by Holistic Design. The setting is that of an age old star spanning empire that fell into a new dark age. Now that same empire is controlled by a feudal society in which nobles, guilds and the clergy vie for power. This setting encapsulates a number of spheres, as well as political, economic, intrigue, mysticism, horror, espionage, diplomacy combat and romance, among others. This in turn, allows for a massively broad range of character types to be create which all have a role to play in the story. In addition, this broad range of spheres allows for a MUSH with a slightly different feel to the usual pure combat/action nature of plots in other MUSHes. Players can take part in the occasional TPs, PrPs and other more traditional devices used, or they can benefit from and become part of the social element of this MUSH. This takes the form of a myriad of machiavellian political schemes, subversive machinations, diplomatic wrangling, economic negotiations or other such devices. In this way the characters and their factions can interact like nowhere else. The staff are all very competent, mature, even-tempered and friendly and, with the excellent players, provide a very warm, friendly, peaceful environment in which to roleplay. Furthermore, this is a *very* newbie friendly MUSH. Fading Suns is a relatively obscure system, and staffers and players alike are more than happy to cater for those with no previous knowledge of the system, setting, or even MUSHes in general. The playerbase is pretty well spread, internationally, allowing for activity at all times of day. Those in the US or Europe are especially likely to find the place active when they are online. All in all, an excellent, mature MUSH, thankfully free from the squabbles and petty bickering so commonplace on other MU*s. Superb.
