Description
Star Wars: Uprising The Galaxy is at "peace" with the overwhelming control of the EMPIRE. The military might of the Empire has ruled the Galaxy with an iron fist for the last 14 years, and their agents, the INQUISITORIUS, hunt down the last of the JEDI... The REBELLION is only small, disparate cells, operating alone with little aid. It is a time of darkness, but with a glimmer of hope on the horizon.... It's currently 5 years Before the Battle of Yavin, before the Rebel Alliance has formed into an actual military force. It's at the height of Imperial power, as they have had no real opponents to their oppression of the Galaxy. This period is at a crossroads, and where it goes from there is up to the characters who will populate the Galaxy. Will the Empire continue to spread, growing in power and might until there is nothing that can stand in its way? Will the Inquisitors wipe out all remaining Jedi, and will all who can sense the Force fall under the sway of the Dark Side? Or will the small Rebel cells form into the Rebel Alliance, seeking to end the reign of tyranny of the Empire? Will the Jedi Order be reborn, once more ushering an era of peace and prosperity into the Galaxy? This is the world of Star Wars: Uprising. * Play as almost any race and character concept your imagination can come up with (within reason), from nearly any race in the Star Wars universe, to pilot almost any ship in Star Wars, and mastery of the enigmatic Force can even be had! * A slightly modified version of Evil Hat's amazing Fate Accelerated system. We use a robust Assets creation system to customize player-created equipment, cybernetics, technique, Force abilities, etc. * Fate Accelerated allows people to create skilled, competent characters right out of the gate, making the epic action from Star Wars possible! * A robust, organic language code with dozens of different alien languages. * A journal system to help keep track of character activity, and to help coordinate with staff. * Easy access to staff, even for solo missions. * Play as an Inquisitor or a light-sider. Currently seeking light-side players! * Become a member of a rebel cell and help form the Rebel Alliance, or join the Empire and preserve Imperial reign throughout the Galaxy! Star Wars: Uprising is set approximately two years before `Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope`, and takes place over a smaller portion of the galaxy. We have been in development since Late November 2000, and use the most recent (regularly updated) version of PennMUSH. We closed down for a while, but recently re-opened. At this moment in time , the first versions of many of our systems are already coded. These include: Space, Chargen, Factions, Language, and general system commands. The initial Economy system is not far behind. We also have seven planets, of which, Carida, Nar Shaddaa, Alderaan, Da Soocha V, Eriadu, and Tatooine are all built. Players can create all manner of characters, and tailor them to (almost) anything they desire. After all, we have 30+ races to choose from, with more than 400 skills and specialisations available. If that`s not enough to set a character apart, we require backgrounds, to further define your character. We tend to be quite active (as our userlevels show), though we do need more players. Stop by some time to check us out. [2]
The Imperial Strike Cruiser Retribution has been pulled out of hyperspace whilst in transit. Heavily damaged, it now finds itself stranded in orbit around Tatooine, in the depths of the Outer Rim Territories. Other ships are similarly affected, and though not all are damaged, a space anomaly has taken away one of Tatooine's last redeeming features: You could always leave it. Now, navigation computers aren't working right. The jump to lightspeed can't be made. Every day, new arrivals crowd this lifeless planet, and with an ever-dwindling stock of supplies, tensions are rising. Smuggling operations have been shut down by it, and the crime syndicates aren't happy. Suddenly, moisture farming looks like a viable career. Even the Empire is trapped in the system, and there's little chance of any reinforcements coming to such a remote planet. Even so, word of the Empire's defeat at the Battle of Yavin has made it to the planet, amid rumours the rebellion could be here. As people sell their most prized possessions for their next meal, rival gangs clash, and tensions mount. In this one system, victory could cause a morale rise that would affect the civil war throughout the galaxy... [3]

I'll start with the cons. It's not bad as Star Wars places go, but the usual caveats (i.e. those pertaining to Star Wars/Trek MUSHes) apply. People seem pretty adolescent, and in fact the atmosphere often very much resembles a bunch of high school kids cutting each other down amidst nervous snickers. There's not a lot of brilliant roleplay going on, and it has a very 'video gamey' edge. Do not expect great things, or much polish - this is decidedly a lower-tier MUSH, bordering on mid-range. And then the pros: Notwithstanding all the above, it can be fun, and isn't a bad option if you're really fixing for some Star Wars roleplay. For example, it has an obvious advantage over the 'strictly PG' Star Wars MUSH - there are not a lot of content limits, so you can RP realistically and grittily if needed. As I said, people can be abrasive, but there's a certain ... peculiar camaraderie about the place, too. Technical pose quality (grammar, spelling, vivid description) is not bad, though; it's solidly in the mid-range. I especially liked its original theme idea - everyone trapped on one planet (Tatooine). It helped avoid the planet-sprawl that otherwise befalls many a Star Wars place. (Having to come up with a reason to move your character halfway across the galaxy for the OOC purpose of finding roleplay.) The current theme is also interesting, with a split Empire. The admin are reasonably helpful and friendly. They -are- very available, too; there's just about always a Judge free to run a scene. And the scenes they run are usually pretty colorful.
MudConnector.Com Review (Archived) by on Feb 4, 2007
In a word: Excellent. The staff as well as a large majority of players on SW:U (including myself) know what a MUSH can be like when it's run by self-absorbed, thoughtless administrators who only care about themselves and their friends. This is not the case with Star Wars: Uprising. Avoiding many of the pitfalls of other Star Wars MU*s (No applicable FC's, as they're going to only be NPC'ed as the occasional plot-devices, for one), this is not a MU* started by a few people who thought it would be cool to try it out without any real knowledge. Players and staff alike have had many years in the realm of MUSHing in this genre and because of that you can be sure to find a fair, intelligent and fun time when you log in, so Star Wars fans and newcomers to this excellent story alike, what are you waiting for?! :)

There is not much really to say about this MUSH, other then it has been the only one I've played in were the emphasis is on the players instead of the admin. Players are kept very informed and are encouraged to RP and come up with ideas that will help or inspire RP. The whole setup of players is more a circle of equals and friends then any other MUSH I've seen. The admin have even asked over the entire MUSH if anybody needed help to give them a call. Altogether the best MUSH I've ever been on, and the only one that has got me hooked.

SWU is a nice place to roleplay. The staff are friendly and are hardly ever way too busy to help someone out with their mundane little problems that I always seem to have, and they take suggestions fairly well, and I have allready seen the God stop major works of coding just to implement another code system the players ask for, even though his heart was set on the other task. Dedication like this can only be found on a new MUSH. Lets hope it lasts forever.

This place is a breath of fresh air. :) Staff are friendly, connected a good majority of the time, accesable, and willing to listen to player feedback. It's a young MUSH so do bear that in mind when loging in. But its growth has been tremendous, both in playerbase and code, performing in the figure of a lamb, the feats of a lion :) You'll never have to spout off "Never an admin around when you need one" at this place. The players are solid RPers and the factions are, by and large, very intelligently run. This place is sure to find it's way to the top of your autoconnects ppl. Enjoy!
