I love 3k. Yes it has it's ups and downs like all muds, but the content in the areas, the guilds, the quests, and the players are a lot of fun. Overall I think it provides a great experience for mudding with flexible rules and lots of ways to build up a character. A big plus for me is the fact that there are three realms with three distinct avenues of content. Fantasy has all your rich fantasy based stories and monsters. Dragons, evil undead minions, magic, etc. The chaos realm is literally random with a hodge podge of random things to keep you busy and interested. Finally science is there for the cyberpunk in all of us that wants to travel to a post-apocalyptic world and deal with massive radiation, space travel, and tech. The admin have done a good job over the years of cultivating lots of content, the majority of which is original, but also cool areas/guilds that we all know. You can be a fremen on 3K; you can go be Duke Nukem and drop a bomb on Bigpig. You can enter the world of Humpty Dumpty and find out what happens to all the kings horses and all the kings men. The list goes on. Overall it's an amazing mud and a lot of fun. It could use improvement in the area of speed. It takes a tremendous amount of time to level up and become powerful to visit all the far reaching areas. Because of that there's a lot of grinding and that can be boring. However I've played this mud solidly for years and still enjoy it.

Well, being a player on 3-Kingdoms has been a good time. Recently, it seems to be falling apart. My character of almost 6 years was wiped because of triggers being left on, when it is NOT a wipeable offense. I think the most disturbing thing about this is, if you spend that much time on a character and wipe it, you have absolutely no chance/way of defending yourself. I guess my perks for the $500 I donated is gone too. There is also a huge lack of wizards on these days as well. Used to have a lot of people there to code and help out. A few of the guilds have been buggy for over a year, coding in guilds is semi buggy (some of the guilds), constant show of favoritism towards certain players. When I say favoritism, I was wiped for just having protection triggers on and I passed out at the keyboard. Some players can do this with no punishment, because the wizards like them and don't want them to ever be punished for anything (gets much worse). You know, I could rag on 3k for quite a while. If you like to try it, go for it. Most people are in their own little click, wizards show favoritism, some guilds buggy, clan world def. buggy... and trust me, if you slip up, any time that you put into your character is toast. Once again, they trashed my character of FIVE years over a non-wipeable offense.
After over 13 years of mudding on 3k I've spent over a year of active time playing and I've yet to complete all the quests offered and I'm still not top of my guild. I rank among the top players though and I consider the journey barely started. I'm part of a very close group of people that rank amongst the elite of our active player base. Among the group our friendship runs so deep that we all find ourselves helping each other in battle to the death or in some cases several deaths without a second thought. Also at times we find ourselves helping each other deep into the night when someone has a need for personal support cause of rl drama. I strongly feel that 3k's playerbase is more like a family to me. With the omp (official mud party) drawing near (happens once a year) I find myself looking forward to meeting old friends in person and creating long lasting new friends. To those in the Indianapolis area on August 8th and 9th 2008 feel free to stop by the radisson hotel and ask for Thunder at the convention center....I'll be happy to introduce you to some of 3k's players and welcome you to the family.
I've played on 3K for ~10 years now, I've enjoyed the people and the long fights. The variety of guilds is amazingly well thought out and is encouraged to party. Although this is a mud where you can also solo or just sit around playing cards while flapping about nothing at all or something serious. Well worth the time to check out.
As a long time player, 3k is my hobby. After much experience in the area this is where I make my home and for good reason. I've played many years, and there are a hundred other regulars that have made 3k their home as well. We all know each others names, party together at the official mud party each year, and are invested in one another as a community. Having an awesome team of people to play and flap with has kept me coming back. Beyond the sappy stuff, 3 Kingdoms is the type of mud that helped give birth to the MMO era. It all started on muds, and the diversity of 3 Kingdoms touches every aspect of any MMO you will play. The system of guilds and their varied played styles covers pretty much any style you like to play. The crazy damage guy or the crazy tanking guy, the summoner, the cyborg, and everything between. The great part is, it's not like there's just 1 way to tank. Healing, dodge based, AC based, and combinations of them all. Doing damage isn't focused around just beaty sticks and lightning bolts, there's a great system that covers all the damage styles of delay, DOT, penetrating, and everything else you can think of. The monsters and how they fight are just as innovative and complex. The depth and complexity of the guilds and monsters make challenges fighting from level 1 to all the way up as compelling puzzles and or down right dirty slobberknockers! The questing system is totally optional, but the stories and flavor are too much to pass by. If the areas and quests were not as snazzy and creative we wouldn't spend the hours and hours mapping, searching, and questing in them year after year! I also like that with the 3 realms of Chaos, Science, and Fantasy, you can build any kind of story you want in any genre. There are shadow runs, dungeon crawls, moon walks, and diabolical alchemists. All the flavor you can ask for and not have to pay $12 bucks a month! These are some of the many things that has kept 3 Kingdoms my hobby for so many years. The fighting keeps me entertained and challenged the advancement and questing keeps me interested. The community keeps me devoted. I hope other people like myself find their way to 3k. It's a good time with depth and flavor that is hard to equal.
My time at 3Kingdoms is still amazing, having started mudding here in 1996, retiring from mudding in 1998 and then returning in 2001. I guess as they say, once you are hooked, you are hooked! The playerbase is huge and very diverse. I have met people and made friends in Israel, US, Sweden, Australia, Denmark just to name a few. The mud has 38209 rooms you can explore and 88 quests you can solve. Quests are optional, but completing them gives you quest points which in turn gives your character status as a High Mortal (if you reach the quests points required). There are 15 High Mortal status symbols. What draws me to 3Kingdoms (3K): I love questing, and the 3Kingdom questing system appealed to me. Each quest is different, some have mazes, some have puzzles, some you need to gather friends and fight nasty beasties. Only your imagination is your limit. Not the mud. Furthermore the guild system is huge and complicated. You can pick from 18 guilds. I have been a Necromancer since 1996 (even after I rejoined in 2001). Reason is simple. Very well coded guild, loads of extras and I always loved playing a Magic User. Each guild also has a management structure. So if you get tired of playing, move into management and help other players. If that no longer appeals, you can become a Wizard and start coding more areas or even a guild. Anyone that reached High Mortal status, can apply to become a Wizard. All in all, 3kingdoms will give you hours, days and years of pleasure. If you are tired of JUST hacking-and-slashing and want to develop your creativity, join 3Kingdoms. Yes, you can hack-and-slash the whole day on 3K as well (if you want). but not all of us wants that. Some of us have brains that need more stimulation.
3k is an awesome mud, from the newbie experience all the way into the high end content and questing. As a newbie you have your own area called newbie land. This is reserved for newbies and makes getting familiar with 3k a snap. In addition to this, 3k has newbie helpers, players dedicated to ensuring the success of newbies. These two resources make 3k extremely newbie friendly. Upon graduation from newbie land you are eligible to join a guild. This is one of many areas where 3k really shines. Each guild has extensive depth and theme associated with it. A quick rundown of all the guilds are: changeling, gentech, mage, sii, bards, cyborg, jedi, monk, witch, bladesingers, elemental, juggernaut, necromancer, breed, fremen, knight and priest. Some guilds excel at tanking (defense), while others excel at damage, and others still are more of a balance. Some guilds are good at the start of a boot run while others need a bit of work early on, but shine later as a result. The bottom line is the number of guilds, and variations in the guilds, along with the depth make it easy to find the guild for you. Another aspect of 3k is the depth of the areas. I've heard there is an extensive review process when the wizards add an area into 3k. This maintains the high standards 3k has for areas. As you explore you begin to realize this depth in the insane amount of detail a single room has, let alone the area. In addition to this the various areas within each kingdom (science and fantasy) are tied together with an overall theme. This only adds to the area experience. On top of this there is a very extensive quest system with 3k. So if you tire from battle you can switch it up and quest. In summary 3k provides a rich experience from newbie land all the way into high end content. I must admit I have work to do because I still haven't experienced all that 3k has to offer. I look forward to seeing you on 3k, and if you want a cool guild to join give necromancers a try.
3k is by far the best. First of all, I like LP style muds. Then when i tried others, there was too much to select from even as newbie.... race, class, profession, skills. On 3k you only choose a guild first, later after you advance in guild you get to have other choices; made things a lot easier. I also really like the quests there. It has a lot of them, and since the mud is always evolving they keep adding more.
I have been playing muds since around 1992 and have found a few that I have really liked. However, when I recently tried to go back to playing muds (I was swept up in the MMO wave for a while) it seemed like they were all the same. Same races, same classes, even the same areas sometimes! I could almost use my same alias, triggers, macros etc. What really impressed me about 3k were the classes (guilds as they are called in 3k). Me and 3 friends started playing just recently and being in 3 different guilds is almost like playing 3 different games, they are so unique. It really makes it fun to try and figure things out and learn your guild. So if you're sick of being a giant warrior or a halfling thief give 3k a try. I'm really glad I did. Oh, and it has one of the best communities of any mud I've played.
TEXT?!?!?! That is always the response I get when I am asked about gaming and let people know I have played at the same text based rpg for over 12 years. It's hard for people to grasp not only that there are no pictures, but that I have been there for so long. 3K has a community and structure that makes it easy. Some of the best features of 3K that have kept me here all these years... -Dedicated wizards. You can have the most awesome tricky code and great themes in the world, but it all means nothing without competent, active support to keep those things going. 3K wizards are active, creatively producing, and innovating, and that means a lot. -Large, mixed user base. There are always lots of folks online, and it's a great mix of long term and new players. The long term players are invested in 3K's success and put the effort into helping new people, and new people keep things fresh and innovating. It's a great cycle! -Lots of areas/activities. I have never seen a community with SO MUCH to do and see. This means that instead playing intensely, running out of things to do, and then quitting while bemoaning the wasted time, you feel as if there are always new things to do and you are progressing in an adventure rather than a 1-shot game. -GREAT PEOPLE!!! The most important aspect for a game. Code is just bits of data, it's the people that make it a community, and 3K has the most dedicated, creative, and awesome people I have seen in a game. Come by and take a look, you won't regret it! The 100s of great people I have met over the years can't all be crazy!
This will be the first time I have written a review for a game like 3K and I'm not sure I can do it justice. After playing 3K on and off for 10 years I am continuously amazed at what the coders (wizards) come up with. Areas with great theme, unique monsters to challenge even the most explerienced players, quests to explore if you like that sort of thing, and guilds where players can grow. If you like to party/group with other players or if you prefer to play alone, 3K easily allows for either style.
3-Kingdoms has always been an outstanding mud. The mud offers something for everyone, for those who like to explore amzing realms, engage in combat with creatures of all kind, join groups of players to war against each other, or a social place to hang out, chat, play games (poker, euchre, etc) and meet a wonderful array of people. The mud also welcomes fresh minds to help code and advance the game. Note: the admin's have changed Tensor and Rastafan remain, but Bilbo has returned as an Admin, and Talismon has also stepped up. Nanook and Wain are no longer with the mud.
Three Kingdoms is a very family orientated mud where you can find hours of enjoyment at any given time of the day. There is an exceptionally large amount of rooms to explore and quests to solve for those so inclined to do so. When starting out as a newbie player, 3k has a large newbie helper base to ensure there is always someone around to answer your questions if you prefer a more personal approach, while still offering a large amount of helpfiles available on every possible subject. There are many guilds to choose from and each one having so many things to offer the player. You can roleplay as much or as little as you choose. Customizing your character can be done how you wish, right down to the stats you choose, to having a tatoo placed on your body. From a player and a guild staff perspective, 3k is a place I am proud to call home. The people are caring and friendships can be made and expanded by attending a Mud party which is held once per year in various locations. You can develop such friendships and keep them for any length of time as the majority of the players here have no desire to go elsewhere and have been here for a long time. As one of the long term family members myself, I have tried other muds and always found that I missed the people and the family atmosphere that is always present on 3k. The wizards work very hard to ensure each player has more challenges awaiting them by offering more areas to explore, new guilds opening, and even more challenging quests being put into the game. Three kingdoms offers both a pk and a regular playing opportunity with sim pk being offered in clans. Come give 3k a chance and let us welcome you into our family. It is a choice you will not regret and enjoyment is all you will find there. Be sure to look me up if you do, and I will gladly aid you in anything you will need. I am also a newbie helper and spend most of my day logged in and helping others. Come for a visit, stay for a long time! We have something to suit every playing style. With no age restriction our playerbase ranges from the very young, to the young at heart. I look forward to meeting many new faces in the future. Come one, come all, and enjoy the fun of a whole new kingdom or 3.
Let's see, where to start? 3-Kingdoms, or '3k' as it is called is a MUD among MUDS. With one of the most active Wizard staffs, to the extreme size of the MUD, to the guilds, this is a MUD you can really come to call home. I have played many online games, and for some reason, I keep coming back here. Maybe it's the feeling of friendship or the sheer amount of things there are to do here. There are many guilds to choose from: Like damage? join elementals. Like to tank? join juggernauts. There is something for everyone here no matter what you like to do. Plenty of quests, if that is your thing, or if you like to kill, PLENTY of areas to explore. So, come give 3-Kingdoms a try, you won't be disappointed! -Tweety, the Canary of death (undead) - http://www.3k.org telnet://3k.org:3000
Ok, I read the rest of the reviews and thought I'd toss in overall impression and comment/add to what else was said. I've been playing on 3K just short of a decade, and have played a variety of other muds as well. Peronally I prefer 3K for the large player base, the gigantic size (over 96K rooms, and I've only seen about 1/4 of it in nearly 10 years), the variety of themes, and the social interaction. Yes, there are the problems with the occasion jerk, player or wiz, just as as there are in real life. Occasionally the powers that be seem to take things to an extreme, but since I'm not privy to everything they are, I couldn't honestly verify or denounce their justification. Overall though, I'd say that if you're there to have fun and play and not be an idiot, then you're likely to never have problems. While questing is no longer enforced (cept the newbie academy and various guild quests), there are benefits to questing. Through questing you can achieve numerous High Mortal ranks which afford bonus powers. So in addition to exploring, fighting, and solving puzzles, there is ultimately even more incentive to quest. 3K players are only allowed a single character to start; however, you can have a second character at level 50 and a third character once your second character reaches level 50. If you're the type of player who prefers to have a ton of different characters, you may find yourself getting wiped for having illegal characters. However, you can leave a guild and join another at any time after level 5, so your character is in no way limited to a single permanent path. Finally, 3K isn't heavily into formal roleplaying. There are a number of guilds with stricter guildlines (such as the Breed who's guild and powers are masked in secrecy, even from other members or the Knight with their Code of Honor which all their members must adhere to), but for the most part the actual roleplaying aspect is fairly relax. If you prefer to be more formal in speech and action then that's up to you, but don't be surprised if people don't follow the same guidelines you set up for yourself. All in all, 3K is a blast. Although there are some things I'd be interested in seeing in it (ranged combat, for example), it's a very thorough MUD as it is with a friendly atmosphere, large player base, and tons of opportunities to just relax and have fun. This is truly the mud for mudders, idlers and flappers alike. I've been playing this mud for a couple of years and have found limitless adversity in these realms. I have been recieved with nothing but kindness and helpful insight from the players and administration. As for the guilds and the areas.. I have never seen the diversity of this mud equaled by any other. From priests to cyborgs, the range of powers, skills and spells also go unmatched. I have also witnessed bedazeling ansi pics, generous wiz boons/boosts and an unending addition to the expansion of this humngous mud. I have participated in an active payer base on many muds, but now consider this my home. I would recomend this mud to anyone looking for a new mud to play and especialy to those who have never played a mud before.
Certain admin seek to destroy all that is good and foul the opinions of many wizards. and for this, they go unpunished, because they ARE the law, they ARE the mud (in their eyes) and they don't realize that the mud is here for the players and not for their own moral standards and not here to be destroyed by their attitudes. They are soulless beings who suck the soul out of the mud in their quest for power, they will NOT stop til they are gone. and in their wake, we wonder what will be left of the mud. will it live? will there be people to right all the wrongs? will this mud rise up against the tyranny it has known for years? I wonder when the play will end, when they will be gone, and fear for what remains in their wake. Will there be anything left of the mud when they are through?
I had played this game for years. When first starting out, the newness, the hugeness, the uniqueness of some parts of it were addicting. The game had a lot of potential, but it also has some major flaws that made continued play unthinkable. One of those is the negligence to follow their own rules reguarding harassment. If you donate enough money to 'their cause' then you can get away with anything including real life threats. The people are clique'ish to the max and if you have no power, then youre forgotten if lucky, or worse youre harassed and called names and cursed out...even by one of the head wizards himself, Tensor. If you can handle being anonymous, then this isnt such a bad game. Just dont expect much help from any one in high positions. Not all people there are bad, though. Some are just afraid to tell the truth because of what might happen to them and their character. Having played the game for several years and staying out of the limelight so to speak, I've seen many atrocities that shouldnt have been allowed. In the hands of the proper people this game would be one of the best as far as entertainment value for years. Unfortunately, that will never happen.
Yes, it is an old and large mud. There is so much to see and so much to do. However, I find the wizard - mortal communication to be poor, it is way too spammy with huge ascii pictures that you cant block. Wizards echoall in other peoples names and so on. If it the mud was less spammy and less flapp and a bit more mature, then I would play there much more frequently.
hihi OK I have to say that 3k is the most awesome mud on the net! It is so large that it will take you years to wander around, so there are tons of areas to keep you occupied. Also everyone is nice and friendly and you may meet your best friend there, I did :) So check out 3k, I am a female mudder and I love it!!!!! Nessa Priestess of Selene
Having played MUDs all over the world for many a year, after a while one gets disappointed by the repetitions found over and over again on different muds. 3Kingdoms is one of a few muds where I returned after a long absence and still fully appreciate the world, its areas, the players and even its admins. The areas are vast and somtimes massive. They can be as small as 10 rooms and as big as a thousand or more. Mapping is not a luxury but a necessity. The main 3 areas alone take a while to be mapped accurately and even then not all the hooks to individual areas will be found. And the amount of areas keep growing and old areas are also still maintained and updated. 3K has quite a few different guilds. The line up has changed over the years and will change in years to come. If you are a player that likes to go in a room and absorb massive damage, you can become a Juggernaut. Rather be a versatile spellcaster? Join Mages or Necros. A fan of the Dune or Jedi series can enjoy himself as Jedi or Fremen. Rather be heroic and chatty? The Knights beckon. These are just a few of the guilds present! Bored of the one? Leave and join another. It is amazing the amount of players present at any time. Some of them have been returning regularly since the beginning! Old players often return after a while as 3Kingdoms is and will be a unique place to relax and have fun. In any form you prefer. After this long review I can only invite you to come over and check 3Kingdoms out. Be beware that you just might not want to leave again ;-)
It's the only mud I'll play on.
this is the most fun mud out there trust me. its the easiest to learn and very fun with lots of optional quests. as a newbie you can ask any other player for help with the newbie help line. There are many guilds also in 3k.
I was introduced to 3k nearly 6 years ago. 3k is a fantasy game which allows a great deal of individualization in playing styles from aggressive killer to chatty lounger. A multitude of guilds enables even the most jaundiced player opportunities for expansion of their experience. Although I have over 108 days playing online on 3k, I haven’t come close to investigating every area/rooms. Indeed 3k is an ever expanding realm. Part of this is my laziness in playing in the same areas over and over; however, it is also just the sheer size of Three Kingdoms! The best thing about 3k are its players. The diversity of age, gender, ethnicity, race, country of origin is exciting. I have made friends through 3k in countries all over the world! 3k has been a prominent part of my life during much of the last six years. When I was a very lonely single woman, when I came home from a very tiring day at work, 3k beckoned, almost as my secret world…as if the players were my own shrunken city of Kandor. It offered solace and friendship. More than that… friendship on 3k blossomed into online romance with a guy 3,000 miles away…and into real life marriage. My husband “Krispos” and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary this summer. And, if that wasn’t enough of a wonder…my son and his wife also met on 3k, and celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary this summer. So, whether you’re out for a kill, or for an adventure of exploring, or to make new friends around the world, or better yet to meet someone special…. 3k’s your game!
I have been playing on 3-Kingdoms since fall of 1996. Trust me, if you stick around a little while, this place will almost be like a second home. There's plenty of fighting to be done if you're the combat type, and plenty of socializing if you're more the chatty type, and almost anything else you can imagine - quests, building homes, exploring, and more. 3K also differs from most other muds in that the areas and guilds are mostly quite original. You aren't locked into the typical "Priest - Knight - Mage" classes, although those guilds, among other "stock" guilds/classes are available, though with unique skills that you won't find elsewhere. You can be a huge tank (Juggernaut), an elemental force (Elementals), a desert warrior of Arrakis (Fremen - my guild of choice!), or any of several guilds. Courtworld also provides an opportunity for you to create new alliances and fight other players in mock player-killing. Each court and guild, and sometimes subguild, has its own chat line. Between all the fighting and the conversations (and other lines are available) you'll never get bored on 3-Kingdoms. So jump in and stay awhile; maybe it won't make you into a wealthy, perfect-ten 21-year-old, but as long as you can tank undead farm animals, who cares?
I have been playing 3k on and off since 1993. I have seen it grow and prosper under a highly organized group of admins, and recommend it to anyone interested. I have played many of the guilds, and eventually returned to my original character name and guild and I am as happy playing today, as I was in 1993.
I have been playing 3Kingdoms for about 6-7 years. In that time i have made more online friends than i can count. I have had my problems with the admins on 3K, and have had my problems with the mud at times, however, that has not affected my view of the mud as a whole, and i had to take this opporitunity to tell all of you how wonderful of a place 3K is. The mud just underwent a massive recode, taking thousands of man hours to complete, and it works incredibly well. I have never seen a mud with as many areas, as wonderful guilds, and as creative quests. Everything you could possibly want to do is included, from Player Killing to a court world, where sim-PK rules. As well as regular invasions where the entire mud must ban together to protect the town (pinnacle) from being overrun by the evil of the realms. Most of the wizards are incredibly friendly and helpfull, and the player base is not only huge, but quite active. There is little to nothing missing from 3K. If you have not ever visited us, please do...you will not be dissapointed. Just look for the Squid (That's me) I'll be glad to help ya out. :) --Bacher
I've been playing MUDs for over 12 years. I was playing MUDs back when you had to direct dial a local BBS just to log on and play. To date, I've played over 20 different muds in some form or another. You know what I'm going to say even before I say it, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this. I feel that 3Kingdoms is the best mud I've played in years. I've been on 3Kingdoms for 2 years and I have got to tell you, there's nothing like it. I was an active coder on another MUD (Afterhours) but traded it in to make 3K my main mud. The friendly atmosphere of having over 100 people to talk to at almost all hours of the day is only one reason. For me? The reason I switched over, was the wizard interaction. I've played too many muds where the coders and admin sat atop the "who" list never talking or being idle all day and never had time for the player base. 3K is not like this. It's not unusual for me to talk to 3 to 4 wizards at some point every time I log on. They also like to have fun. Another problem I had with most muds is that they're too uptight. The variety of guilds is great as well. And something else I find fun is every now and then, instead of booting up the mud normally, the wizards will throw in a special reboot where players can match their guild skills and playing ability against each other in the forms of "Team Bloodmatch" and "Anarchies". You don't find this kind of excitement and fun in most other muds. And the deaths don't even count as REAL. I'm not going to continue rambling, but you're missing out on one of the best muds ever coded if you don't at least stop by and check out 3Kingdoms. Feel free to say Hi to me also! :) Halcyon
Ah 3Kingdoms, or 3K for short, my first MUD and remains the greatest mud I have ever played. I have been on this mud for almost 2 years now. Nothing I have played is capable of beating it in anything. It is an immensive mud with 3 themed major areas. This is what gives 3Kingdoms its name, the three areas are Fantasy, Chaos, and Science. The players are very enjoyable to be around. Court World a great sim pk where now, after a recode, your equal to everyone else and no one has any major advantages. Also the house system is excellent, it gives you a total of 50 rooms to do pretty much as you please, which you must purchase after buying the house which comes with 3 already. One of the greatest things of the mud would have to be the 13+ original guilds most of which are themed excellently. Some of them are Fremen, Monks, Knights, Mages, Jedis, Juggernauts, etc. There are also several guilds in the various stages of development, or being recoded. My present guild is Fremen, which are as based on the Dune series. However, as many on the mud know, I await the recode of Gentechs, a guild based on Genetics, experimentation, and time travel. Their main power when they were closed of Time Slide, it was capable of reseting a room regardless of how long till the room would reset naturally. Although for some this may be a turn off there is no races to choose from on 3K, however, I think this to be a plus as it doesn't force you to choose something you may regret. Also the stat system of Str, con, etc. is raised, useing xp, how you want it to be as doesn't start you at any fixed stats instead you start out with 1 on each stat then raise them how you want. Also for those that don't use people to help you start mudding 3K provides excellent help for newbies, includeing there own area that is a represntation of the mud and helps you start mudding. I relied on this when I started mudding and this being my first mud relied on it to teach me how to mud. However, don't simply rely on it the people of 3K are excellent in helping out newbies, in fact I may have probably quit 3K if it weren't for some fellow guildmates. It was after I had left newbie land I had done some exploreing and ended up killed twice after the second death I was getting very discuraged when a few of my fellow guildmates noticed that I was haveing problems. They stoped what they were doing and helped me figure out how to deal with, and play in the mud outside of newbie land. Now I am a level 40, Glevel 53 Fremen, glevel is guild level, and i am also high mortal, which can only be attained through questing. If your on...

3Kingdoms rocks. It's as simple as that. The world is enormous, there are tons of quests, lots of cool guilds, and it's -not- Smaug, like some other muds we know of. There's tons of variety, lots of cool, helpful people, a rockin' system for PK that doesn't quite count(deaths don't hurt you, and you don't use your normal guild abilities..Court World rules). The guilds are all great, with a wide variety of powers. Jedis, Mages, Juggernauts(defensive tanks), Necromancers, Knights, Bards, Priests, Fremen(from Dune), Monks, the Breed, and Elementals. This mud is incredibly addictive, is very well balanced, with areas for players of all level, and a good number of areas for everyone, and is by far the best mud I've ever played.
Hi my name is Daomir, I am a Necromancer(Reaper) on 3Kingdoms. I must say that it is a rich environment, full of many quests, creatures, unique items, and fabled lands spread out amongst 3 well designed kingdoms. Those kingdoms are chaos, science, and fantasy, where you can run into a mob of aliens in one realm and get chased down by goblins and trolls in another. I see all these other reviews claiming their mud is the best. Well how fun is it seeing Midgardd or some form of midgardd, with the same borring cityguards, and same borring chr'effns, etc..? Not much fun. The people who claim its the best are just canadian, and can you really trust a canadian? Well anyways enough banter, come try 3-Kingdoms, enjoy the wealth of people, guilds and places to explore. And finally DON'T TRUST CANADIANS!!!!
I suppose I can say little about 3 Kingdoms that hasn't already been said. As has been pointed out, 3k has a massive (and expanding) mud environment, which means you will never run out of places to explore. 3k has a large variety of guilds, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, along with many unique powers for each guild. 3k has a very well developed newbie system, with a dedicated newbie area as well as a large group of players who have volunteered to be Newbie Helpers. 3k has a wonderful quest system, endless variety of character manipulation, PK and simPK, and too much more to list. However, I feel the best part about 3k is the players. The atmosphere on 3k is very friendly, and a huge part of that is down to the players. There is constant banter on public lines, and the sense of humor of most players are well developed. The jokes range from bawdy to classy, and even a few classy bawdy jokes appear from time to time. It's not hard to find someone to lend you a hand if you're in need, and you find yourself willing to give your own time and knowledge to help others. It's this spirit of community that makes 3k great. In summary, I heartily suggest trying out 3k. There is simply no better. Sheltem Necromancer of the white material planes.
I lucked out and found this mud by accident back in 1996. Until then I had been a dedicated aber-mudder, but they rapidly became boring and easy taking only days to reach wizardhood. I tried a few lp's before 3k, but they were either too small or the ppl too unfriendly or the whole point of roleplaying was completely ignored. And then came 3k, it had all the role playing I was looking for plus the silliness in ppl that just makes playing fun. After all, it is just a game...and 3k is the best i've found so far. Enjoy!
I've played this mud nearly as long as it has been up and have enjoyed it quite a bit. It has become a regular pastime for me. My favorite
I might be biased, as Three Kingdoms is about the only MUD I've played on in the eight years that I've been mudding, but here are a few words I have about the MUD: Some facts: Three Kingdoms currently sports 38637 *explored* rooms in 481 listed areas. While questing is not mandatory, the MUD boasts 76 active quests, with several more either in process of being coded or being recoded. We have thirteen guilds available, including: adventurer, bards, breed, cybercorps, elemental, fremen, jedi, juggernaut, knight, mage, monk, necromancer and priest. Eight more guilds are being coded or re-coded. Out of our 53 active wizards, we have 15 titled wizards who are always working to make our time on 3K more enjoyable. Players can own houses and can even add a bit of personality to their character with tattoos and piercings. PLayer Killing is limited to only registered PKers. On occasion, the Admin will have Anarchy or Bloodmatch sessions where there it is every player for themselves but is no penalty for player vs. player deaths and the winner usually gets a prize. As a player, I've enjoyed this MUD a great deal and will continue to support it. Both players and wizards give Three Kingdoms a fun playing atmosphere, no matter if I'm hack'n'slashing, questing, exploring or just chatting. I've been in most guilds at one point or another, but I keep going back to the Fremen guild. In my opinion, it is the best guild in the game. I've also been a Necromancer quite a lot and I can say *almost* the same thing about them. Sure, there are moments where people don't get along. That happens with anything where there is such a diversified base of people. All in all, however, mudding at Three Kingsoms is a great experience - no matter if you prefer hack'n'slash, quests or just chatting away with other players. This MUD combines it all to make it fun.
I would just like to say that when i came to 3K i was a total newbie and had never played anything like MUD in my life but i loved RPG's and wanted to learn to play. The players on 3K were very helpful and the system on 3K to help newbies is really incredible. Now i have been playing for a while and have joined a Guild (GO PRIESTS!) and i'm having the time of my life. So if you like RPG's and have never played a MUD please come and try 3K i promise you won't be disapointed.
3Kingdoms is the first MUD I logged into and here I am 4 years later still logging into it. I've tried other MUDs and no other can compare to what 3K has to offer. The help from the players and wizards alike is great and the amount of areas to explore with the quests to keep things interesting is what kept me going back. There are also a ton of mini-quests that are just plain fun to do and give you nice little perks once completed. There are many guilds on 3Kingdoms and every one of them is worth taking a look at. Depending on your style of playing, there is one that will suit you. There are Monks, Juggernauts, Elementals, Mages, Fremen, Breed, Warders, Bards, Necromancers, etc to choose from. I was a Necromancer for 3 years and was given the opportunity of being a player admin. Every guild has this opportunity for player advancement if you want a leadership role. Each guild is different in its powers and lends to great strategies if you decided to party with players of other guilds. Also, within each guild, you can customize your player to suit you. No two players are alike, and that's what helps keep things interesting and fun. Courtworld is where it's at for those who want simPK. After being queen of my own court and making close bonds with the people who warred with me, playing took on a whole new role. Court members party with each other, help get equipment for each other, and support the other members on all their accomplishments on the MUD. Recently, I decided to become a wizard for 3Kingdoms and have learned the major reasons why this game is so great. Having never thought I would become a wizard, the fact that I did is a scary thought, since I have no coding experience at all. However, all the wizards of 3k have supported me through my learning curve and given me great ideas. Imagination, creativity, and in depth theme is what we strive for. There are tons of opportunities to do as many projects and areas as you wish as a wizard, provided you can handle it. I am a wgm for Monks with Rastafan as my mentor since he is the head wgm. I'm also on a planning committee for a brand new guild that is planning on opening soon. Plus a ton of ideas floating around in my head and some partially completed areas coming along. There are tiers in being a wizard, but everything you do and every promotion you get is based on merit. No matter what you look for, a place to chat to people, a place to be a leader, or a place to just be yourself, 3Kingdoms offers it all. The players and wizards are all wonderful and friendly. If you need any help, just ask and someone will be there. With the new newbie question line, being a newbie no...

I've been playing this mud for about 4 years now and it has pretty much dominated my mudding since I started it. Other muds are ok but they seemed lacking in something. Now other muds have guilds, and quests and even lots of players and size but 3 Kingdoms is truly unique because it has ALL of the features you see other muds boast about. Over 70 quests, unique guilds, buy and build your own house, make friends and get them killed partying ;),kill them in the arena, play in the courtwars, go gamble in the 3k Casino, play UNO, defend yourself against the Wizard run Invasions/Anarchies/Bloodmatches. Just sit and flap, its all here. It really is just huge. There's a little thing you can do thats called the explored rating. In 4 years I've visited about 17000 rooms, and there's over 36000 in total! The standards for writing the areas is very very high also. You know the effort that the wizards have gone to in creating these areas is enormous. It also has probably the most active, vocal, and generally accessable wizards on any mud I've seen. In the time I've been here I've found ideas of my own listened too, and at least given a response to. Im happy to say at least some of my ideas are even in the game these days. Check it out, its friendly, its fun, its diverse, you name it 3K has it. I love it, and I'm pretty certain you will too. Samiel the Werelion
I've played 3k since 1993. 3k has always been one of the best muds i've ever played on. This mud has alot to offer anyone who wishes to play. With fourteen guilds to play in and randomly over 200 individuals who play on here as well. Our atmosphere is warming and encouraging. -Carleon
This mud covers everything quite well. The best of which is the newbie system. New players when they log on get introduced to a newbie help line. Newbie helpers help out the new players with learning the mud. The mud is broken into three realms (fantasy, science, chaos). Chaos covers what wouldn't fit in the theme of fantasy and science. There is what seems like an endless number of quests. But don't fear, if you don't like quests you don't have to do them. There are over 400 areas to explore. So you won't get bored for a long time to come. Plenty of people on line to chat with. So why not check it out and see for your self.
3-Kingdoms is the kind of mud where you learn how to mud, fall in love with mudding, then keep coming back for more, time and time again. First of all, the newbie system on 3k is unbeatable. Even if you haven't ever mudded before, friendly and helpful people (players, wizards and NPC's) are there to show you the ropes. This is a group of people who really care about newbies. You start out in newbieland (which is a miniature version of the realms) where you can get used to battling monsters and learn how to quest. There are 9 quests in newbieland alone so you can take your time in there or breeze thru it and go right to a guild. But don't be fooled, newbieland is only where the fun begins. At level 5 there is an abundance of guilds open for you to join. Each guild has its own theme, powers, skill sets and cool tricks. We have the Necromancers, the Elementals, Monks, Mages, Fremen, Knights, Juggernauts... (just to name a few). Your character becomes what you want it to be, limited only by your imagination. The camaraderie in each guild is as unique as the guilds themselves. The really wonderful thing though is that each guild, while its members can go out alone questing and hunting, members from different guilds can come together in a party and really have fun. The unique abilities of each can come together to really tear things up. The realms of 3k are enormous! What's your pleasure, Fantasy? where you battle dragons and beasts and rescue the fair maiden? Science? where you battle in a techno-cyber-postapoclyptic atmosphere? or Chaos? where its all up for grabs... The areas within each realm have some of the most creative and unique themes within. Tired of the hack 'n slash? Try some exploring or questing. We have wizards that are some of the most imaginative creators, and that creativity is nurtured... Think you have been thru an area and seen it all? Look closely, there is always something new and cool there to discover. There is so much to explore that if you find the same old areas boring, you can go find new ones! With over 100 quests, you will always have something fun to do. Some quests can be solved in a few minutes, some will take years. Ok, all this and still bored?? We have Courtworld too! People of different guilds coming together for boot runs, joking, partying, and within the walls of Courtworld, W*A*R! Where your pk skills can shine and your bragging rights are hard earned! After 3 years, what keeps me coming back to 3k? Partially the areas, partially the best guild in the game (Necromancers, imho) but mostly the people. The people on 3k are incredible. Come see for yourself, join us at 3k.org port 5000.
As one of the Wizards/Builders for 3Kingdoms, I have a pretty unique perspective of the MUD. I spent approximately 5 years as a player, and I have been a wizard for 3 years. I have played on several other MUDs, and I am good friends with builders on other muds. I have to say, 3Kingdoms has a higher standard for code and theme than any place that I have ever been to. Here, we are strongly encouraged to use the full potential of our imagination, instead of being constricted by a linear theme that cannot be deviated from. Writing our own storylines, and creating our own histories is rewarded. Not to mention the amount of detail that an area must contain before it is approved for placement into the game. Not only is 3Kingdoms a great environment for learning the depths of your imagination, but it's also a great place to learn. The Wizards are all there for each other to help out when one of us is stuck on a particular coding problem. And we're always willing to help by giving ideas to each other. Also, while your rank as a Wizard will sometimes limit what you have access to or can work on, we often times have free reign to work on as many projects as we can handle. Personally, I am working on creating a new guild with some other wizards, I am one of the Lead Overseers(wizards) for Court World(a massive SIM-PK environment), I am on one of the three Realm Teams(Chaos to be exact), I work on a mudwide newsletter, and several other minor projects(with plenty of help, of course). This is just an example of the freedom of work, imagination, and opportunity that the Wizards are allowed(after you earn a certain level of trust, of course). All of this is pretty much behind the scenes teamwork that goes into making 3Kingdoms the most complex mud that I have ever had the joy of experiencing. We have an extremely loyal player and Wizard base, including some like me who have been around for 8+ years. We have almost 500 areas that are constantly being updated with the latest code, maintainers keep the theme fresh and bugfree, and even old/closed areas are often times rewritten and brought back to life. We have numerous guilds, each with it's own unique theme, and even more guilds on the way. It's been my experience that, when a mud reaches a certain age and size, stagnation tends to set in. This has yet to happen to 3Kingdoms, and with the great group of dedicated Wizards, and players(player input is highly valued), that we have had during our entire tenure, and still have to this day, I cannot forsee this ever happening. 3Kingdoms will always be something special, not only to me, but to anyone who takes a moment to stop by and see what a great environment we have to offer.
I was first introduced to mudding and 3k in 1999, when a few of my friends told me I just HAD to play. Two years later i'm still playing, and playing non stop. I have tried other muds, and other systems of mudding, but so far I cannot find an equal to 3k. By far one of the easiest muds to start playing, and a very challenging place to play. Two of the best parts of 3k are the people and the guilds. While I a Necromancer, perhaps the best guild on the mud (a debate for another day perhaps), i have enjoyed many of the other guilds. I love 3k. By far, the people on 3k are the best part. Whether you're a person who loves to compete and rise to the top, or just flap (slang for chatting), 3k is awesome. With many public chat lines, and even more ways to privately talk to your close friends, 3k offers the best atmosphere for anyway to mud. Let's not forget the court system. This is a simulated player killing enviornment that challenges the skill of the individual as well as the teamwork and leadership of your court members. Courts have close ties to eachother, and work hard to help eachother. Bshadowl - -=TNS=-
What can I say about 3kingdoms? It's addictive, I can't help but play this MUD. It is, by far, the best MUD I've played. Having also played on many MUDs basically because I get bored very easily and want to test different things out, this is the only MUD I have stuck with for over 2 years. What is the reason behind this, I hear you ask? Simple.. It's unique. I have yet to find a MUD that offers as much as 3kingdoms does and in such a friendly way. Newbies - 3k over the last few weeks has become totally newbie friendly, with the introduction of a special chat line where newbies can ask any question without fear of being laughed at (which is important and has happened to me on other MUDs) This in conjunction with Newbie Land, which in my opinion is fantastic with the way it's set out and the amount of mobs (monsters you fight) etc, makes 3k one of my favourite MUDs to be a newbie on. Questing - now questing isn't compulsory but it IS fun.. There are some quests I must admit that make me just want to tear my hair out in frustration but I believe that just adds to the non-boredom factor.. Areas - Gosh, the amount of different areas in this place is amazing.. That's one thing that gets me about 3k, the diversity.. It's named 3kingdoms, I believe, because of the 3 different realms.. Fantasy, Chaos and Science.. I have to admit Chaos is my favourite but that's because it's friendly to smaller players and that's what I am :) But whether you're Lvl 1 or Lvl 100 you wont want for a place to explore or fight. Guilds - there are around 12 active guilds on 3k. The thing that makes 3k different from alot of other MUDs too is the fact that your power is totally guild based. Once you join a guild at lvl 5 you become one with that guild.. All your powers come from that guild. And with such a choice of guilds you wont get bored easily. Also the choice of guilds to join is quite good, ranging from your classic Priests or Monks to Necromancers and then Jedi or Juggernaughts, there is never a lack of alternatives. Misc - The help files are really good too. You are almost guaranteed to find a help file for anything you need, if you were so inclined. And the Wizard base is excellent. There is almost always a wizard online to help you if you need them to. Oh and they are all quite friendly as well ;) Basically this MUD is fantastic. The people are wonderful, the realms rock and the playability is great. And these are the very things that keep me coming back time and time again. Give it a go, you wont regret it.. Adara
This mud is a really great game to play. The people on it are all nice and you never get bored of it with the 15 differnt guilds to choose and the 3 different realms to explore. Along with the 100+ quests you can do to challenge you brain. I think 3kingdoms is the best mud I have ever played and i will continue to play it for quite a long time. Already been playing it for a year
Three Kingdoms is what I believe to be the finest mud available today. The quick rundown on this site doesn't do it justice. The rundown says 20001+ rooms. Try over 38000 unique rooms in the Three Kingdoms realm, spread over close to 500 unique areas, some of them ranging into the thousands of rooms themselves and containing areas within areas. Quests in Three Kingdoms are not mandatory, but they are what keep people enthralled after the hack and slash newness wears off. They range from a five minute quest where one only has to chop a tree down to quests that take players YEARS to finish and tax even the most powerful and seasoned of our players. If PK is what you're looking for, we have a limited PK. By limited, I only mean that the entire population of the MUD isn't PK. True PK on Three Kingdoms is reserved for those who have the desire and drive to risk their necks wherever they roam. For those who wish to try PK, but don't want to risk the well-being of their character, Three Kingdoms boasts its Courtworld, where players form factions outside of their normal guild members and enter into a world with its own rules and stat systems. Courtworld on Three Kingdoms truly is a fully functional completely PK MUD within the world of Three Kingdoms itself. About those guilds? There are 14 currently active guilds ranging from the Necromancers who derive their power from the corpses of their enemies to the traditional Priest, Mage, Bard, and Knight, to the Juggernauts who roam the realms in their mechanized power armour, to The Breed, who are so secretive that a great majority of the mud can't even find their guild, much less know what their theme is. These guilds are scattered throughout the three realms in Three Kingdoms. Fantasy, a realm in which the fantastic and the epic are the basis, house the fearsome Necromancers, deep in a darkened wood. Science, a realm that came into being after a nuclear holocaust in what used to be the United States houses the Juggernauts deep in their highly fortified bunker. Chaos, created by the more unstable forces that created the world might present you with Santa Claus on one side and a slight turn sends you into a watery world where strange sea creatures reside, while another turn might put you in a larger than life game of Magic: the Gathering... or worse. On top of all of this, Three Kingdoms was the first mud to use the Portal MUD client, allowing you more freedom to monitor your character and create tools to maximize your gaming because the MUD and the client work interactively to bring you the fullest experience possible. Finally, the mud sports over 1000 active players with over 100 players to be expected online at any time, so things are never lonely. For the best in MUD experiences, Three Kingdoms is your place.
it was very easy to get started, the players are very helpful to new players and the main parts of the newbie land are very simple. there seems to be lots of guilds and a fun atmosphere.
