Based on Rackham Publishing's Cadwallon RPG Setting, the game is set in the high fantasy world of Aarklash where the kingdoms allied with the Ways of Light and those allied with the Meanders of Darkness fight the Rag'norak. The world is burning in war, yet at the heart of it all is the Free City of Cadwallon, known as the Jewel of Lavener and the Venomous Rose. Here the local and independently minded Cadwes citizens live in the many fiefdoms of the Lower and Upper City, and all pay their loyalty to the Duke. While refugees, diplomats, merchants and travellers from the various kingdoms come to the city to escape the war, or to bring it within the walls of the Free City. Most Cadwes live their lives by the bootstrap as various groups try to influence them ... from those working for the Barons, to the various Guilds with their expansive power to the representatives of the warring kingdoms. And through it all the small bands of mercenaries and adventurers known as the Free Leaguers form their cadres and swear an Oath to the Duke to serve, but also to serve themselves.
