DumII is an excellent mud, and the only one I've continued playing over the years I've been mudding. The collection of people there are fun and interesting, and the relatively small population is extremely close-knit. This is as much a game of social interaction as it is a game of exploration. If you like hack 'n slash muds this IS NOT the mud for you. This mud will stimulate your mind with its challenging quests and will force you to prove your might in fights against powerful NPC's. Restricted PKing is allowed, but this isn't a world where people will kill you just for kicks. DumII is a great, unique mud. Make sure to check it out if you're looking for a challenge in the way of quests, or are just looking for a good social mud where you can meet new, interesting people.
DUMII. While the name may not be as exciting as others, the game itself sure is. What makes DUMII so unique is that it doesn't rely on hack and slash killing to gain points. In order to gain points, you must explore the far ends of the realm, and gather items and then dump them into the void, for a wide variety of points. At a certain point, you will receive a riddle describing your quest. Your quest will be a little test to see if you are worthy of reaching a new level. Complete the quest and be rewarded with a new level. Simple as that. The game itself is truly unlike anything out there. Since there is no repetition of killing MOBS for points, every time you go to explore a new area, or the same for items to dump, things may be different, such as someone has already beat you there! But you may be thinking it's bad to have more mortals on at once. Well you're wrong, because with more mortals, the more the items are worth. Overall, the game is worth a shot. If you do not try this game, you do not know what you are missing.
As with any place, as with any mud, it all comes down to one very important factor - social experience. Whereas DUMII may not have the largest population, it does have one of the (if not _the_) closest knit ones. Any a wandering soul will feel right at home, be welcomed by friendly faces, and soon after, become a part of a strong community filled with good people. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the journey, and I would recommend it to anyone still seeking a place away from home, to call a home. Ancient Dragons, Immortal Wizards, Adventures, and Fellow Companions await...
Ok, heres the thing about dumII...Its a social game. The atmosphere is like no other mud I've ever played. And the leveling system is a nice change, you don't just gain power by killing, you have to use your brain. Just give it a try and I gaureentee you'll like it.
At first, DUMII might seem like the wierdest and worst mud of all, but guess again, cuz it rocks! The fact that there is a HIGH standard on roleplaying is a good thing. You dont have 50000000 people blabbing on the OOC Chat and talking about the war and such. The only war talk in DUMII is about if a Holy War would come (which right now, it wont.) DUMII has its perks. Every player is enjoyable in their own way, and i always look foward to coming in to play. their experience system with the small room, and their new code has point values dependant on the number of active mortals fits right into the game's hand. instead of killing a mob, healing, and repeating, you venture into the deepest parts of the realm, bringing back treasures to dump into one of the 4 voids (preferably the southern one), and when you have gained enough, you will be tasked with a quest, such as slaying the feared Elder Dragon, saving an island from certain doom, raiding an evil king's treasurey, or some of the mini-quests, like pulling off an Indiana Jones like stunt by gaining possesion of a grand figuring (temple of doom anyone?), or plunging into the blessed waters of a faerie to gain her treasure. Whatever you do: your bound to have a blast! So come experience it, the small realm offers about 200,000 points per recreation (when the points are put back into place), and some bodies are more valuable than the treasures. The Adventure is awating you!
DUMII, the name might not be all that flashy, in fact it is butt ugly, but look beyond the name and experience a world like no other (except it's "cousines"). Here you have a world, littered with good, evil and neutral beings, each fighting for the balance of the universe. A strong sense of roleplay lingers in the atmosphere and roleplay is indeed encouraged. There are three churches and numerous guilds one could join (it is even possible to start a new guild, all you have to do is to mail the admins descriptions of the rooms and an overall idea of the guild). Experience is gathered in a quite different way from most MUDs, in other muds you slay monsters and pay little to no attention to the descriptions, in DUMII you are almost enforced to scrutiny the descriptions to find long lost artifacts and the like, for it is in the items that experience lingers. The world is flat and is encompassed by an intangible void, and it is in this void that when the items are dumped the gods will reward you, the longer and more troublesome way you aquired the item the more it's value. What I like most with this MUD is it's good atmosphere, the language is at it's peak, in fact you can look at everything you see in the description and usually you are able to interact with most objects found in the descriptions, thus it's 2900 room is indeed more complex than a hack 'n slash MUDs 10 000, because there is so much to do in each room. Further more it is not just a matter of gathering experience, no, in DUMII you must finish grand quests at each level in order to raise to the level beyond. At a certain amount of experience the gods will reveal a "riddle" which you will have to solve, this could be all from heaven to earth, rescue a maiden from a dragon, search through a dwarven stronghold, go through perillous dungeons etc. So take my word, heed the call of the gods, venture into DUMII...yesterday!
Alright, so here's the thing, I have played many MUDs and this one stands out FAR FAR above all the rest. It is a very unique MUD and in a very good way. First off it is a lot more simple than other MUDs, but in a good way. The atmosphere of this MUD is also very easy to get used to, all of the players grow to know each other and most higher level characters are very friendly. The game has it's own small community, which one can easily grow attached to. I have played this game for at least three, maybe even four years now, and I know that if you like MUDs, this WILL be the single greatest game you will play your entire life. SO GO PLAY IT
DUMII best mudd. Gronk say so. Go play now
