In its former incarnation as the Habsburg and capital of the Holy Roman Empire, Vienna ruled all these regions. Today still Vienna itself is still like a medieval bastion. Anachronisms abound, from antique decorations in otherwise ultra-modern buildings to forgotten catacombs beneath bank vaults and subway tunnels. Honest-to-goodness castles and imperial palaces still exist and stand side by side with ancient cathedrals, modern shopping malls and sky scrapping office buildings. The city is more than only a natural hub between East and West Europe. It is also a pivot of Europe's organized crime and espionage. Albanian drug dealers clash with Ukrainian and Moldavian human traffickers and Russian KGB agents turned weapons smugglers, and there they face off with already established west European and Italian crime cartels. Vienna is sometimes described as one of the grandest, and at the same time most compact, capital cities in Europe. It certainly is among the oldest. Founded 500 BC, the city originally was a Celtic settlement called 'Vedunia' for river in the woods. In 15 BC, it became a Roman frontier city called Vindobona, guarding the Roman Empire against Germanic tribes to the north. During the Middle Ages, Vienna was home to the Babenberg Dynasty and in 1440 it became residence city of the Habsburgs from where the city eventually grew to becomes the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. Finally after the World Wars Vienna became what it is today, a modern capital city uneasy located between Eastern and Western Europe. Vienna by Night MUSH is an Internet-based role-playing game using the rules and setting from White Wolf Publishing Inc.'s World of Darkness, set in the fictional city of Vienna Austria. We support the system as published 2004, which also often is referred to as nWoD or WoD 2.0. The game is run on a dedicated server using RhostMUSH version 3.9 with a few of our own modifications to make roleplaying a little more interesting.
The staff of Haunted Memories are excited to announce that applications for mortal concepts (including crime/civil/law) are now open for Alpha testing. Haunted Memories is set in near future Vienna, Austria, using the new World of Darkness game system. It is our intention to launch each super sphere separately once proper code and ST support is in place, beginning with vampire then moving on to werewolf and mage. Our staff is active, friendly and experience (many of us have worked together well before). Our interest lies in creating an RP environment where players and staff can enjoy telling stories together within the theme as laid out in our +theme files. Initial alpha testing will commence in March 2006 and will focus more on staff run, TT type scenes than full RP with regular plottage anticipated in April 2006.
