My own experience with Kore was rather mixed from start to finish. While the player base is very dedicated, it is at times very elitist and the starting curve for new players can be prohibitively steep. Determination does pay off, but with limited people running and infrequent loads producing a character that's fun to play can become a truly long term project. Some select of the players can really make playing there a pleasure, but some select of the staff ruined it for me. Without giving names, those among the staff that I had no other complaints about raised not a hand to stop blatant player abuse by others that soured my whole experience. To be clear, courteous feedback led to muting, notitling, derogatory titling, slaying, and open and public attacks of a personal and disparaging nature. The room base is original, but fairly familiar in the Chessboard / single continent sense. The code has evolved a lot from its Circle base, but IMHO those responsible for it have done more tweaking and tinkering than working towards any particular goal or vision. The result is frequent character and equipment obsolescence, and a combat system ~balanced~ so much that its predictability makes it entirely playable by simple scripted bots (which established players use to their advantage with gold-runs they leave running for hours). On the whole, I'd only recommend playing here if you already have a friend with an established character. The time investment required to move into the more interesting areas of play isn't rewarding, and the mud isn't growing in any direction made evident to me in some two years of play.
