I love HexOnyx and have devoted so much time to it. I've also been an Implementor there for almost 20 years now, if you include our offline time. Anything I'd write here is clearly going to be biased, but I'd like to direct you to an article written by our very own Guru, one of our original Implementors: https://medium.freecodecamp.org/how-i-learned-to-program-f196a5a8bfd3 We're back; alive and kicking! Stop by and say, 'Hi!' :)
I have been playing this mud since 1996, a lot has changed, things have grown and improved constantly. This mud is a great place to play. We have dedicated people who love the game and a great staff. If you are looking for a mud this one rocks.
I am currently implementing hexonyx, i'd ask that everyone please ignore the last review under the name of swipe. Swipe is went on vacation july 5th and doesn't have internet access. The last review was by a player who was caught cheating and didn't like the fact that he was called a cheater, he got all angry and on the mud it showed. On here he used the name of a currently semi-active imm who still loves hexonyx, we range in size for people but we are not dead as he said. We are a nice little mud that welcomes all who wants to play, so please come check us out. Hexonyx.com port 7777 We'd love to see you there, Hexonyx is has alot to offer, so please come check us out and decide for yourself about hexonyx. Hobo - Head Coder and Implementor of Hexonyx
Hexonyx is all but closed down. I was an implementor until i recently resigned due to the mud sucking. There is an average player count of 2-3 people and atleast one of those people idles. Nothing ever happens anymore. Consider this a dead mud.
I've been playing on Hex for about 16 months now. Having mudded many years ago, this was the place that got me back into it all, which is no mean feat. The mud offers 3 timezones, with a variety of modified stock areas + many new areas that are unique to Hexonyx. There is plenty of variety for all levels to explore and enjoy. Hexonyx offers multi-class characters of different race, + also relatively new pure class chars, with enhanced skills/spells and even newer dual class specialities. In short - plenty to keep a player occupied. Whilst the mud doesn't allow multi-playing, it is acceptbale to create as many alts as you like. We have a friendly pbase of characters, so if you'd like to try something new, pop on. You can find me as Oggan/maruchan/brunoz, so drop me a tell if you need any help.
I am Papoulis … a Troll tri-class gentry warrior at Hexonyx m.u.d. Well... I am not just a warrior..there is a bit of mage and cleric in me , I can cast more than 60 different spells and heal myself also . I play hex for 10 months now and I discover new things almost every day . When I first started Google-ing for muds I found a few places that I tried but only in Hex I got help from day one and always someone to show me around or give me a few tips on equipment, directions and anything I needed. ( and believe me , help is not easy to get in any mud , specially if you live in Greece and you play when most of the regular players are sound asleep ). A couple of months ago I was fortunate enough to join the best clan in Hex [Dominion] and my fellow clan members helped me discover and explore new areas and get better equipment for me and even more equipment for the new characters I am creating. Hex Is huge ..There are so many areas ..3 different time zones , magic zones etc etc … All almost completely different than the other . I’ll try to explore all of them although its not easy because the imms are building new areas all the time. Got to log on and play a bit now - anybody comes to check Hex drop me a tell ..ill be glad to help .

Hexonyx is a Mud that caters to a wide variety of people. I have been a part of this mud sine Early 2000 and must say that it is severly addicting. The experience system is easy to learn and the entire mud can be fun for PK'ers, solo XP runners, Gold/EQ hoarders the mud plays to all these people. All and all I think this mud is a great place to meet people and enjoy hacking and slashing mobs, or other players
I've been playing at Hex for about 15 months now. I used to mud many years ago and after a long break, Hex was the mud that got me back into it. There is a solid and dedicated pbase, though fairly small at present, so pop in and give Hex a go if you have time. Players are always happy to help out new characters here. The Mud is varied, with many areas that are specially written, varying from good newbie zones to zones that require multiple gents, and are no recall, no summon, so need a dedicated team to succeed in. If you're just looking for somewhere to level and xp or a more compliated zone to try for good eq, then Hex works well on that front. Most players have several gentry chars, and the imm staff are mostly players too, so understand the players perspective. We have fairly regular quests, be it small mob kills, to big invasion quests which can last for several hours. In short, Hex was the mud that got an old mudder back to it for me, so has to rate high in my book.
Play hexonyx!!! why, because I said so!! But no really its one of the best muds out there and all the people are really nice, there are many different areas and many different classes/multi-classes to choose from, it keeps me busy all day and if you would like to join in on the fun, also ask me or one of my alts for help anytime with anything credas/clip/baal hopefully ill see you there :)
I started on Hex when I was in 7th grade back in 95/96. I have sampled a few other muds, but I have to say that, in general, this mud is the best I've seen. It's not because there's an ungodly amount of players on, but the fact that the people who do play are extremely nice and helpful. The different areas that are incorporated in the game are fun and detailed.
this mud seems pretty old because they've modified the circle code a lot and they've got a lot of projects going -- a quest eq for quest points system and a lot of different ways to build your characters -- pur class, tri-class and a new experiment in the works -- dual class where once you master two classes, you become eligible to learn a sort of combo-class (thief/mage can become illusionist. so a lot of the older players have a ton of different kinds of characters for different tasks like, PK, groups, solo, etc.
enjoy'd this mud. The help that the oldbies (experinced players) toward us newbies was fantasitc. Also very nice run through with some commands and different things u can do and about the mud in general when u start a new charator, which in my mind is sweet. Also kind of cool that the quest imms put quest items on mobs around mud at random which makes it fun to explore. Lastly the lack of spam killing on newbies is very nice one thing i hate the most is people spam killing me when i'm just trying to learn which doesn't happen here. Well have a nice day MaD hAtTeR
Hexonyx has been my home on and off since early 1996. A friend of mine at college was talking about this cool game and how he was now level x and was starting a new clan. Well that got me interested and I logged in and it soon became my addiction. Hex has grown and changed over the years, yet there is a vast majority of people that still play over and over. I am currently a co-implementor of the mud. I enjoy it, yet there are places for us to grow as a mud. Sign in and give it a shot. Drop me a mudmail or send me a tell and I would be more then willing to stop by...
Over the last few months I've been looking for a new MUD to play and have tried so many that they're all starting to blur together. Right now there are ten games in my client's address book but of the probably fifty games I've tried, and it's likely to be whittled down to two games very soon. One of those will be HexOnyx. Why? When I first logged in, I got several tells offering assistance. An Imm (Meleagant) took the time to follow me around for a little bit, showing me around, offering advice on where to gain some XP, giving me a bit of equipment. Every time I've ad a question, it's been answered well and promptly. I've grouped with people and adventured solo, found areas by myself and had them suggested. I really enjoy the fact that there's a clear way to find areas to adventure in at your current level and that many areas reward revisiting when you're stronger. So many other games, I'd feel lost as to what to do next, and be told "Look around!" when I asked for suggestions. Well, that's fine, and sometimes I really enjoy exploring like that -- but sometimes you just want to see something new. You almost always can on Hex. So I've decided to stick around, visit regularly, see if I can't level a character up and become really powerful. Usually, I get bored with game-type MUDs long before getting to the really nifty stuff. With Hex I'm hoping to level well into my third class. I really want to see some of those Gentry-level areas...
I've been playing Hex since roughly the fall of 1993. I don't think that I've ever seen a mud with a better pbase or a better set of imms, and I have played on quite a few muds. The game is great and is steadily improving, but the real treat to playing Hex is the people. There are the occasional few pains, but for the most part the people on Hex are extremely friendly and eager to help. I would highly encourage anyone that enjoys muds to at least give Hex a try and I guarantee that you would not be disappointed.
Great mud, friendly players, decent clan system, not overwhelming for a newbie, plenty of help to get you started. I've been here for a little under 2 years now and have been mudding since 93.
My current handle is Luciferian. I've played Hex since '94. Many changes have taken place since then. The most pernicious change, is the switch from quad class to the restriction of just three. The change is of little consequence due to the advent of a new class, beyond mu cl wa and th. They have created Monks. It's a great mud. I gave up mudding for 6 years and I've gotten back into it, with a vengeance. A lot has changed in the world of MUDs since Circle, Diku and LP. However, HexOnyx, remains a great experience.
This place seems to shimmer as if it was echoing upon itself. Perception seems to be blurred in ways that escapes explaination. Sounds come from no where and range from bird calls to dragon roars. Tastes, smells, feelings and every other sense seem to be flooded with hints of everything. Deja Vu sweeps over this area in waves. It takes no fool to realize that this is a very different place than reality. Obvious exits: -------------- Up - [ 3936] Inside a Crevice Hello. Sure you've seen posts from plenty of players but I thought I'd write this one to bring you to me. My name is Ethcominack Tashrack but by the mortals I'm known as "Eth." What do I do for my mudd? I build. I build big zones, crazy zones and if I'm not mistaken, a couple of them are run all the time (Roleplayers in the University) and others are scary runs because they're traps in themselves (Crystal Caverns). What do I want from you oh post reader? Well the introduction was a sample of the rooms I spit out and I want you to come explore them. I currently have two zones in the blueprint phase, a revised version of Moria and a zone that lets you run free in my imagination. Two highly diverse concepts, much like our mud. Mind you, I'm only one of an active team of builders, so if you're looking for variety, we've got it. Where else can you kill dinosaurs, battle mechs and other players (if you get a pvp flag, not required) all in an afternoon? HEXONYX! Well hopefully I'll see you in one of my new zones, try "Echoes" its new and for some reason scary. www.hexonyx.com -Eth
Although slightly confusing at first, HexOnyx gives many leads into what is needed to be done, you just need to fill in the rest, a map and a help book are given to beginner characters and if used, are extremely helpful. There is a unique set-up for the experience gained, where you can choose to level, or put it towards improving your attributes, and since you are able to multi-class this is very useful in building up for the other classes you wish to take part in. Also available are a large number of areas, some original and some stock, including a good number of areas for low-leveled characters to start in. They have an active staff, though a smaller sized player base, though this doesn’t seem to stop them as they are continually including more and more player-related items into their system. It seems like a good place to go for people who are used to Circle based MuDs, and if you are willing to learn, a fun place for those who wish to get more into this code base!
Lightning flashes and you see the dark shadows of tall buildings and ragged signs all over town. You hear the screams of murdered innocents, and the howls of werewolves. The panic wells up within you, as you continue to scan the streets for any sign of danger. You hear footsteps, and you whirl around to see no one. Continuing to panic you race for the only safe place you can think of, the Grand Temple of Dra-agdim. Hurrying inside you see the calm faces of clerics, and the wary eyes of master warriors scanning for trouble. You at last feel safe. The thief following you reveals his presence and explains his actions. It was all in fun, just a game. Just a game. In the RPG world the best thing to happen has been the MUD. To some people it is only a game, but to others its a way to release the inner you. People can roleplay their characters well, myself included. (Just watch for the insane/demented titles of mine :) I have a slightly insane mage, a drug addicted gnome, and a slightly dumb warrior. I can play their characters perfectly. Most people are friendly at hex, a few people are sorta mean but its all in character after all. Newbie friendly, and a huge world make for fun, plus the addictiveness of wanting that last piece of eq for the perfect set really keeps you coming back. I play at odd hours as I work the graveyard shift, but when I'm on for awhile you'll know. :) A great game for beginners and advanced MUD players alike.
Hexonyx is not just another mud, for me it's an addiction! I started playing since 97, a friend of mine in college got me in to it. I've been playing off and on since.I've tried many other muds, even sites similar to the coding and game, but none i could enjoy playing unlike Hexonyx. Other mud's were too confusing and hard to get started. If u want a game u can easily understand, then Hexonyx is a great mudd to try.
I have always enjoyed Hex since I started playing in 1993. Sometimes life called and I had to stay away, but I have always returned there. I have survived p-wipes and some lean years back in the 90's. The new ideas and areas that have been added in the last few years are awesome, they rival any other mud that I have seen. They are always coding something new and have kept the mud growing over the years. The players are good, some even friendly! The pk version is an excellent compromise, and the imms have always been helpful and they put effort into this mud. Newt
World Map: Hexonyx is one of the largest muds I have ever encountered. Hexonyx has 3 different time periods, each with their own areas and dungeons. For the most part, each and every area is entirely different from the others, meaning that exploring this mud is actually quite a bit of fun. I don't want to spoil the areas for you readers, but I'll just say that each and every area is worth exploring. Keep your eyes peeled for theme areas like StarWars, LOTR, and many more. Characters: You begin by picking your race, each race having different stat limits, and one innate ability. You may choose from High Elf, Sylvan Elf, Gnome, Troll, Hobbit, Dwarf, and Human. The mud currently has 6 classes- Freelancer, Warrior, Thief, Monk, Cleric, and Mage. You start off as a Freelancer and may not learn any skills from this class. Once you gain a level you may choose to join another guild. You may learn skills and spells as you gain levels. Once you reach level 40, you may opt to join another guild. This will bring you back down to level 1, and all of your previous class's skills will be retained. As you gain levels in your second class, you begin to be able to use the skills of your first class, as well as learn skills from your current class. Once you reach level 50 in your second class, you may choose to join a 3rd guild. You will once again be brought down to level 1, and you will retain the skills from your first and second class. Once you reach level 70 as your third class, you attain a level called "Gentry". Depending on your choice in classes, you get different combo skills. Once you have reached level 40 in any class, you may train your stats. Stat training will have a large impact on gains when you gain a level. All in all, there are several ending results from the choices you've made. Equipment: There are over 20 places on your body where you can wear armor. Equipment can be enchanted to give bonuses in your Attack Power, Hitpoints, Mana, Movement, ArmorClass, or raise various stats, or even cast spells in combat automatically. Mobs: This is what gives the mud its true uniqueness. Monsters, just like players, can have abilities from one, or many classes. Some will spell themselves up, some will cast attack magic on you, and some will use combat skills against you, and even some will use all of the above. Another thing that I like about this mud is that some monsters are so tough, that you will need the assistance of several other characters. Immortals: The immortals in this mud are actually really nice people. They are almost always doing something to improve the mud, or perhaps just cooking up some quests for you and other players. Also, if they're in a good mood, they might just give you a restore...

A community that never dies... Back in the summer of 1992, I was ask to became one of the tester for a mud and it was call the Five World which is know as Hexonyx later. Five world was a mud that got plenty of action, friendly imms and especially, I don¡¦t have to pay any rent to store my eq. After I master the place, I quit in late 1995. In 1997, I start playing Hex again, it was different, Hex has turn into an adventurer mud where there are quest, areas to conquer every night. Especially, they have a LONG list of quest eq that you can purchase quest item for. Of course, I master the game again and so I quit. Until recently I play hex again, I found that Hex was complete different than the past. First they have this clan code for clans and there are new class and new skills to learn. Especially, the high imms are always there to interact with players, for fun, trouble shooing and rebooting/debugging. Worlds in area are different then 10 years ago, because the mobs carry AI and on the other hand, each mob carries different skill sets just to kill you. It is fun and entertaining. For a while I though hex would die out, but I guess it is not. Because at a time, very few people plays hex, but lately hex carries a constantly player of 25, which most of them will help out new comers and at least give them basic cash and eq to start with. The game play allows experience to develop assassin mode, which means PK is allow only to experience players that turn on the killer flag. Characters can also become werewolves or vampires to increase their mana or hp at night which give them extra attack power. There are eq which require to charge up because using it. (Which I think it made sense, you do need to charge up the laser cannon before firing it.) For those of you who seen this post, please consider in playing hex, or at least to log on and chat with me. Perhaps you may look at mudding from a totally different angel. Cheers
This is one of the best put together mud I have seen. It has a good pbase, so your not stuck playing alone. I am yet to find a mud I enjoy playing more than this one
I've been playing HexOnyx off and on for the past 4 years. I was introduced to it by a friend and over the years it has grown on me. I've tried playing other muds but I also go back to HexOnyx. I've just recently started playing again and I find it addictive as ever. I can hardly sleep without playing Hex :). Despite some of the more "violent" players and a few missing(or not updated) helpfiles, Hex has been by far the best and fun MUD I have ever played. Many players such as I are newbie friendly and the Immortal staff is very helpful and friendly as well. So come check us out! :)
Hexonyx is the first mud I have ever played on, and from what I have seen since I started to play in November. I think this mud is great, all the immortals are very nice and have no problem helping you with any problem you may have. Same with the majority of the mortals on Hex as well. That is why this is the only mud I play.
If you're looking for a MUD that's worth your time, then HexOnyx is the place. It's fairly easy to get started, with good instructions and clear controls. The veterans and immortals are pretty willing to help someone learn the ropes. The best part about Hex is that although it's easy for a new player to learn, it is just as fun for the advanced players too. Advanced (and downright dangerous) areas, clans with other characters, and competitions among veterans help keep the game fresh and fun. The people at Hex have done an excellent job, and it is worth your while to check it out.
I've played Hexonyx on and off for years and always keep coming back. An excellent multiclassing system, huge world with three seperate themed time zones, dedicated IMM's who run frequent quests, and an even more dedicated player base make this one of the greats. The wide variety of class combinations and zones give this mud great replay value. I highly recommend it.
Over the years, I have played HexOnyx the majority of the time. I have never found a better mud, though I have tried many. It is first of all FREE, though that does not bespeak its quality. A text-based MUD, HexOnyx has a dedicated staff of builders, questers, and coders to ensure that the mud is running and interesting for the players. The player base is mostly friendly, and the immortals are mostly helpful. This MUD is especially NICE TO NEWBIES :). There are a variety of areas in three different time zones that allow for a variety of different area themes to be explored. The areas are mainly original, though a few are based on pop culture. I highly recommend this Mud to people.
Walking down the darker lane near the dumpster. Its half past your bed time tick and you are a newbie. You see a shadowy figure but try to ignore him. You pass a dog with a tag that reads, "Eric" you keep looking at him, and he keeps barking at you. You just pass him and keep head West. You come to the city wall, so high and made of powerful stone. You wander till you find the gate north of you. You look East and see a building with arcane symbols all over it. You get this feeling in the pit of your gut that its some place you wont regret looking into. You walk in, pass a bar, and into this room your instincts tell you where you need to be. You walk up the the Mage Leader, you ask him about joining... Welcome newbie, to the land of HexOnyx! This is a MUD of wonders and creativity. Based on JRR Tolkien and D&D rules, it is a wonderful place filled with good immortals and players to boot, enjoy.
Hexonyx is by far the best mud that I have ever played. The players are mostly very friendly. The extensive amounts of areas give players a variety... Past, present, and future worlds are exciting, and always give you something new to explore. Hexonyx is challenging, but not too difficult. The help files are incredibly helpful. I have been playing for over a year under different characters, and the players and immortals always make me feel at home. I've played dozens of muds, but I favor hex above them all.
I have been muding for around 6 years now and let me tell you what, this mud is not the best in the world, but if you like to be treated nice as a newbie, as your learn more join a clan to teach you the basics, and finaly become a Legend this is your mud. When i started i had people helping me left and right, not to say they made it easy but it helped a lot to be showed the simple zones and slowly i learned and now i am a HEX lover. 2thumps up!!!
Hex is a lot of fun .. I started morting way back in the day, got into some building and questing and coding and finally ended up imping for a year and a half. So, from just about every perspective a guy could have on a mud, I can say that Hex is an awesome place, and I'm really glad to see it marching on - I don't know of any other game based on decades-old technology that can still give the latest and greatest (Evercrack, I'm looking at you) a run for its money, and come out ahead. -Taleden
Hexonyx is a multi-time (past, present and future layers each house enormously differing world layouts) hack and slash MUD replete with seven races and six classes. Hex is a multi-class MUD which allows for extensive character growth and ongoing challenges. The multiclass system allows players to build characters with a diverse mix of powers and strengths. Gentry level characters (the max level for mortals) can continue to grow and develop with skills available only at that level, which makes it possible to challenge more menacing mobs with fewer group members. A very active coding staff presents new areas in the past, present and future time zone with a fair amount of regularity. There's interactive questing run by a very creative quest staff, with quest points awarded that can be exchanged for rare quest equipment, or for the more naturally disaster-prone, corpse retrievals. Clans are available to those seeking like-minded buddies with who to MUD. Best of all, the vast majority of players are newbie-friendly and are only to glad to help new players. The MUD is very extensive, but has a low learning curve. Foul language is restricted to OOC, which can be turned off, for a very PG (but still exciting!) MUDding experience.
I’ve been spoiled for the past year…a year ago I was introduced to Hexonyx the best MUD I have ever experienced. Spoiled because every other game regardless of if it’s a MUD or not doesn’t compare. Although there usually aren’t a large amount of players logged on there is definite diversity and players can actually carry on conversations with Imms…. you aren’t just another name on the list visit, live and love – hex.hexonyx.com port 7777
Hexonyx it a perfect mud for people to start and play on. The commands are easy to learn. The immortals are all nice and a pleasure to have around. Overall if you are thinking about playing a mud, try playing hexonyx first, it will rock you world.
