In the year 2000, the Japanese government ran, and failed, a project similar to the Philadelphia Experiment. As a result, a massive burst of energy swept through the test site and spread through the surrounding area like a shockwave, rippling through space and time and leaving buildings and peoples from other times and places in it's wake. The shockwave created by the experiment was the biggest rip in space and time but it wasn't the only one. Anomalies called portals appeared at random, spitting out various peoples and objects from what scientists soon discovered were popular anime, manga, and movies of the day. To hide their guilt, the Japanese government called these anomalies 'naturally occurring phenomenon' and covered up any and all signs of their experiment, concentrating the people's attention on revitalizing their city instead. Thus Metropolis was born. A thriving mega-city blending the old-world town with the new-world tech where your neighbor could be a maniacal wizard or princess from another world and the stranger on the street could be part of the undead. Anything can happen in this city gone haywire and usually, anything does.
