As a person who has mudded for far too long and seen just about everything, I was ready to give up the search for the perfect mud. Then I found Myrradel, which while not perfect, has that old school flavor and intensity I had been missing. It certainly got me back into the spirit. Myrradel is part of a loose family of muds with similar codes and tons of loyal followers stretching back many years. Can these people have it all wrong? Myrradel is an environment with too much to describe in the space available, but I will touch on the most important items. Myrradel is an advanced playing environment, not just because much the coding and game design are inspired, but because of its policies. You see, in Myrradel you find yourself in a highly competitive environment with a group of elite players in a perpetual struggle for dominance. You will not find immortal interference in 99% of player-player issues. You will find immortals who listen to players concerns, but not the ones who listen to whoever whines the most. It is a meta mud, so you are rewarded for your efforts well beyond the maximum level of 60. This also means that giants walk the land, but they are well balanced in a political and clan system. You can grow and hold your own in time. Player-killing is fast, fun and furious. There are different degrees of loss depending on your status. If you keep from being wanted, you will never lose significant experience and items will not be lost. There are ways to trap players in situations where mobiles do the work, and real death can be more painful. Again, this is a mud that rewards clever thought, skill, and commitment. If you just do not like player killing at all, go elsewhere. Myrradel offers clans (including halls, guards, portals, etc.), almost entirely original areas, sub-classing at level 30, extended race selections and the opportunity to be polymorphed into even more races. There are regular quests, quest eq, you can purchase stats and abilities at the meta shop, and much more. The best part is, there are players! Yes, you will find, consistently, a large number of players who are DOING things! Many have been playing the mud for countless years, but there is a great new mix of people who have arrived in the last few months. There is very little social control, so bring your thick skin, your sharp blade, make as many friends as you can early, and give it a few weeks. It is hard to start on the mud, but once you show you are committed to staying players will go out of their way to help you and provide you with equipment. Get to level 3 and ask to join the newbie clan [Innocents] in order to find others to group with. Finally, there are some new features being added and several new areas coming out each week. mud...
