I've been a player on Criterionmud for some time. at present, i've played on criterion since 2002. code stability: very stable. uptimes of 20 to 25 days at a time are routine. code is tested before it's inserted into a Player's environment. code modifications: predictable, very few bugs. bug reporting is simple, and repairs are made quickly. areas: varied. admins routinely solicit for input on what needs to be improved. a huge selection of areas - not just the standard set of dikumud areas. the original sillymud code is still recognizable even though a lot of changes have been made. difficulty: the game is rather easy to level in. a newbie area, a donation room for spare armor and gear, and friendly players and immorts. it is common for players after level 10 to gain entry to a clan, and advance with assistance of clan members. players: the usual mix of newcomers, midlevels and a small "staff" of hardcore mudders who remember when telnet was the only way to mud.(no really - see also: monochrome monitors.) overall rating: very good.
Criterion Mud went and "ban" 3 perhaps even 4 of it's players.? You "repeate" the last part? There was no "responce"? You were "Ignore"? I'm sorry but I have trouble taking your prattle seriously with all the made-up words you seem to have thrown in. Maybe I am just not up to date on the latest trendy jargon. I mean, correct me if I am wrong, but I have never heard of the word "Sofar". Ah where to begin in my response to your review. Ah, let’s start with the fact that it is not technically even a review. It has no recommendation either for or against it. It doesn't have a single unbiased point. For the most part it is just an opinionated essay. You did not review the mud, nor did you review any of the mud’s staff. All you have done is complained about a group of people being banned from the game, for reasons that neither you nor I know. Do you even "know" for a fact that the said people have been banned? Have you seated yourself over their shoulder as they made an attempt to log in? Tsk tsk my young friend, tsk tsk. Another point you brought up was your "poor" treatment by the mud’s Immortals and Creator. I can see nothing insulting in your posted conversation. That may be because it has been edited heavily, as a few of my own gossip/music channel antics are disappointingly missing from the log. You asked, "Now I tell you, should and immortal actually be insulting players and an entire clan just because they can?". Let me point out that the clan in question as well as yourself have been part of repeated attacks against this immortal and caused more than enough problems during your stay. I also want to point out that the immortal in question was not "On duty". That is to say she was not currently working as an immortal. Will your next question be whether or not it is acceptable for an immortal to not say "God bless you." When you sneeze? They are there to keep the mud running, fix scripting problems, create new areas and mobs, and enforce the rules of the mud, none of which she broke. They are not there to blow your nose and make sure you get off to school with enough money to buy your chocolate milk. She did not berate you publicly; everything that was said was said in private "tells" and you have given no evidence at all that she said anything insulting. Also as a side note, due to your past history and past treatment of the immortal in question, you would have been quite deserving of any insults, if any had occurred, and telling you that she does not know something, is hardly beating around the bush. In closing I would like to say that signing your name as “anonoymous” is rather pointless David. Now if you would so...

Amazing..just when I didn't think a mud could get worst, Criterion mud goes and ban 3 perhaps even 4 of it's players for no, and I repeate the last part, no reason. Now I know you're all going what? that's insane. Is it now? 3 of the four people banned have not been able to log in for 3 days now, and have asked what's going on being that it's obvious from criterions ICQ that there are people on. No responce from the muds creator..no suprise there since he ignore all e-mail complaints about his immortals and their behavior. So I ask, if you do not believe my claims go to the criterion website, find Belgrarath's contact information and ask them the following=are Katrina, Drogan, Tylor and Metalatarms banned, and if so Why? Sofar all attempts at finding out the reason has returned no responce or gotten responces such as these from one of the immortals mortal characters: You tell Morgana, 'why was FD banned? I ask you because yuuku is annoying me quite a bit with answers i know aren't true' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'FD is banned?' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'but I saw LondonRose last night.' H:1151 V:123> You tell Morgana, 'that's what kat says' Morgana musics, 'small brain?' H:1151 V:123> Yuuku musics, 'with a brain the third the size of that of a mans' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'oh rofl and you are listening to her because?' H:1151 V:123> You tell Morgana, 'kat says that all of FD has been banned' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'And this has what to do with me?' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'Or am I once again, at fault somehow?' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'lol' H:1151 V:123> You tell Morgana, 'i was wondering if you knew since you're an immortal' H:1151 V:123> You tell Morgana, 'she was wanting to know what they did' H:1151 V:123> Morgana tells you 'I saw an FD on last night' Now I tell you, should and immortal actually be insulting players and an entire clan just because they can? There was a simple answer and all it needed was a simple answer, yes or no. Rather Morgana, AKA Ariana immortal of Criterion chose to insult a player that does not deserve insulting and beat around the bush to the fact that 4 players, all members of the same clan that have chosen to not hand control of their clan over to Ariana like every other clan hsa, have been banned with out proper cause. Further more I call for the removal of this mud from any site that advertises it as it is obvious that they don't want players..they only want themselves and mindless people that will follow behind and never think twice about what they are doing. Thank you for your time and for reading -Signed Anonomus in fear of retaliation from Above mentioned Immortal Ariana and aformentioned Implimenter Belgarath.
Well, from first look, this is a really well put together mud. I like the areas, mobs, layout, descriptions. But, there is one problems with it. The immortals are corrupt. I am a relitivly new player, and i have noticed that a sertain clan seems to dominate the game. I have been told that the clan is owned by an immortal. And have also heard that said immortal is very corrupt. With immortals and clans like that, I dont think that playing criterion is something I will ever do again. Try it for your self, but be warned, cross the immortals, and prepare to be ridiculed, made fun of, or punished beyand what is nessessary. Not a good player base, that is for sure.
Dear all peachy people. Every time a review is made that describes the illegal activites of the staff it is promptly pushed aside and a rather fake review is posted. I have found this rather laughable, but for those intrested in playing Criterion I highly suggest against doing so. The staff is unfair and most ignorant when it comes to the need of the mass public not related to an immortals clan. This mud is ran by a single clan who cheats lies and steals. Doing as they wish the owner an immortal bullys and threatens any and all who pose a threat. All reviews posted for the longest time have been made by the staff, trying to glorify the mud. The mass scale of mortal reviews are bitter and unhappy, this is not just a single person but sevral trying to make a impression on the immortal staff. please read _ALL_ reviews before you venture into this mud. beware. Honesty matters.
Criterion is hands down the best mud I've ever played. It doesn't have an overwhelming number of players. It is more of a closeknit community where everyone knows everyone, and they do a LOT to make new players feel welcome. It doesn't take too long to get used to it, and once your character is up and running, the game really opens up. You can choose from a druid to a warrior and everything in between. Overall the game is very fun. Whether you like to level up mindlessly, prefer to go out and do quests, or explore new places, you will be served. I highly recommend Criterion Mud to everyone. Check it out! Homepage: www.criterionmud.net
I played at CriterionMUD for sevral years and as all muds do, Criterion had it's ups and downs. But I have recently found out a close friend was banned from Criterion for submitting a review not to the liking of the staff. Finding this as an absurd and rash, I have it in the right mind to explain what went on for all who care to read. It started sevral months ago with a on going clan war, the usual petty theft and insualts, but the owner of one such clans was an immortal who never saw fit to punish her own clan members for breaking the rules. At the time this "owner" was one of the few active immortals on the staff so the IMP turned an blind eye so to speak. But as this arguement/clan war got more serious the offenses made against the opposing clan got worst and even more public. On sevral occasions this Immortals own clan members spoke out against such action yet nothing was done. After such activities had been going on for sevral months a good portion of both clans just simply left the mud. The few left did not recieve any help from the staff nor even a simple hello. This leeds to the past two weeks. My friend who shall rename well, nameless. Posted an Review on TopMudSites, and was banned for doing so. With the backing of another immortal, who was a former clan member turned postal carrier. I would advise all who seek a FAIR and JUST mud not play here. All who want to be treated with disreguard play at your own risk!
Criterion Mud is an outstanding place to play. You will not be disappointed! During the years that I've played there, I've made a number of lifelong friends. Criterion maintains a community atmosphere, a community which is helpful, fun, and a joy to play with. New players are welcomed with open arms and guided in a constructive and helpful manner. The code is very user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy to learn for new players, and a lot of fun for experienced players. The staff releases regular updates to expand the world for players to explore, adding new monsters, and quests. Trust me, it's well worth checking out. See you there!
Enjoy playing for months to build up a character then getting banned for violating an apparently unwritten rule which states that "thou shall not post a bad review of my mud on a public review site in hopes that the problems there will be fixed"? Then come one come all to Criterion Mud where there is an entire world of injustice just waiting to be explored.
Well fokes there we have it. Remember my earlier review? Well get this apparently having an opinion isn't accepted either. Thanks to me saying that one of the imms is out of line I got banned. So to everyone out there in mud land, have fun if you ever play this mud
Criterion is a great mudding experience, from it's high quality players and staff to it's outstanding zones and quests. The world itself is quite large. Many of these areas are custom, so you will run into things that you have not seen before. There are zones for every level of player, interesting room descriptions, and plenty to discover. Player-run clans are awesome and a encourage a lot of fun interaction and group-hunting. There's simply not enough complimentary things I can say about this game. I'm absolutely hooked. Check it out if you get the chance!
This is a great mud! I started playing about 3 years ago. Alot has changed since then, all for the best too. There is about 5-10 people on average and the people are great to play with. Everyone helps each other when they first start out or when they need to get something specific. The quests are great fun to do and there is alway new areas being made. The immortals are nice too. The sounds in the game rock, and so do the pictures and colors. Its worth trying this game, come in and take a look. :)
Some things I like about Criterion Mud: It is great for both new and experienced players. The players are friendly and helpful. The staff is good-natured and well-liked. They are constantly working to improve the game. The world is ever-expanding. New, original areas and quests are added regularly. The commands are easy to learn, and the help files are great. It's very well thought out, so that it is easy to focus on making a character, exploring It is suitable for most ages, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. I have had more fun at Criterion than any other game I've tried. Stop in and check it out!
when i first came to this mud i was greeted with pleasantries they didn't mind me roleplaying (even as a starwars char)The features are great, i can even play the mud on my cell phone! how cool is that. They have color, pictures for every item, and the coding on the mobs is great (more realism). There are around 6-10 people on the mud all are nice and friendly we have a great time grouping and playing a mud how its supposed to be played. Come in give us a try and see for yourselves!
When I first started playing this mud about 8 months ago I loved it and really enjoyed it. And if I were making this review then I would say everyone should go play. However, 8 months later theres only one thing I can say for the mud-the programming is great, but don't expect to be treated well by any of the imms if you actually have a brain. Criterion is a mud with roughly five active clans...four which are now a big bunch of small clans ran by the same person who is also an imm of the game. The 5th which I colead chose not to be owned by her and is in my opinion doing very well, save the fact that now we have to deal with her continually killing our guards and stealing our stuff just because she can. Depending on who you are all this is fun, but when you look at it from the prospective that there is a clan being ran and owned by one of the games IMMS it starts to become very obvious not all is right with Criterion. On a daily basis there are roughtly 10 people on, all male because females are immedeatly ran off by the only female imm, Ariana/Selina/person who owns MW. As for males, if you have half a brain and chose not to suck up to her expect to get nothing but additude from her. If you're in the clan Finadestiny expect more crap from her becuase in my opinion she knows we're better than her and that she's let her clan go down the crapper. So now that you've read MY take on what criterion mud is here's what I say-If you enjoy lots of clan political crap, being attacked for no reason and getting crap for showing a brain give criterion a try. If you enjoy being mindless, having to suck up to an imm that is out of control and never having fun because of that you may also give criterion a try. If you think that you can make a differance in this mess, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TRY THIS MUD. If however you do not enjoy any of the above or think you can make a differance DO NOT UNDER ANY REASON TRY THIS MUD.
This is, by far, the friendliest, most engaging mud I have played. I've tried others and always come back to Criterion. I've seen a multitude of improvements. The immortals are always working to make the game better. It's a very player-oriented mud, with player-run clans, automated quests, and new areas to explore. Criterion has struck a wonderful balance between challenges for the experienced player and a welcoming atmosphere for new players. The classes are challenging and fun, each with its own unique capabilities. So stop by! This definitely a mud that you can call "home". :)
Of lately we have had IMM own a clan (for past three yrs or so) and it has been fine, but now things have been off set. all this clan can get is newbies and they talk nothing but trash to any one who posses a threat. along with this IMM not enforcing mud rules upon the clan they own. and with throwing rules up that -dont- apply to every one else to avoid playing the game and getting what is coming to them. MW needs to be stopt. great mud but this clan is outta hand, we need new players that wont fall into the grips of such clans.
awesome mud, players are always looking to better themselves and dont just sit around doing nothing. along with many many clans always friendly and willing to help any one who asks. with sevral new areas being added as fast as they can be put out (of high quality of course) and many new quests always being added. and simply not the kill this do that quests. truely interactive quests such as finding a potion and protecting a druid and his life or hunting rare and hard to kill mobs for noble equipment only achievable by those quests. the immortals are helpful but do not get in mortal matters, always ready to answer questions and give a helpful tip. with the sliding scale with eq it is rated rare (also the only items you have to pay rent on) the item is always obtainable it just may not load every time you kill the mob. this system balances the equipment very well and adds a new challenge. the clans are very much in detail, with shops, chests and enough options to make your head spin while not being confusing. the clan system for ranks is very easy to understand, it is standerd for all clans no matter if the clan is large or small. i could continue on all day about the greatness and how much you should check it out, but listing all the in dept features would take all day, so check it out for yourself and test the very well designed newbie school. (complely original newbie school)
I started playing criterion 2 years ago and I am still not bored! With quests and areas being added regularly the MUD has a vibrant feel to it unrivalled by any other game I have ever played. I choose to play the game in Pueblo, a standardish text based client, but there is also an extremely cool graphical version full of pictures and sound if that is more your thing. My favourite thing about pueblo however are the players. I have never met a player I didn't like, on the contrary I have made many friends on the mud. No-one asks you about your age or where you come from, it doesn't matter, people play criterion because it is an amazing game. 'nuff said.
This is an excellent game! The rapidly-growing playerbase is full of friendly people who are there to have a good time. Someone is always around to lend a new player a hand. The immortals are always working to improve upon the game, but have time to answer questions and lend a hand. You can choose from traditional text-based, or the graphical version (which is very cool and just keeps getting better.) It has lots of features geared toward making gameplay great, such as: player-run clans, automated quests, unique spells, and more. New, original areas make the game come alive. There is so much to be said about this mud, it’s impossible to cover it all here. The bottom line is, give Criterion a try. You won't be disappointed. :)

Criterion MUD 'Life as a Newbie' The 'Newbie' or new character, begins his/her story in the world of Criterion. Whether you play as a backstabbing thief, a heroic warrior, or one of the various multiclasses, you have the option of using graphics through Pueblo or http. Create aliases with zmud or another mud client, display colors or utilize sounds, the world comes to life as your story unfolds. Along the way, you will encounter quests to overcome, multiple areas to explore, an automated multi-item auction, a duel arena, and a variety of random items.
