So, Unicorn Valley, where can I begin to describe thee. Well, I've played on Unicorn Valley for 6 years give or take a few months. I honestly have to say I'm in love with the mud, I just can't let it go. It's quite honestly, the best mud I've ever played at, I've been on several at the requests of friends but they just weren't the same. Also, in a quite comical moment, I let my guard down for 2 seconds and just walked into a DT.(A death-Trap which instantly if "hard" destroys all your equipment although you can get a player file restoration, the DT I walked into was "flagged" meaning that the DT'ing was my fault and not anyone else.) So I re-created and my journey begins again, also on a side note like it's been stated before, the Valley Mentors (Similar to a Newbie Council in many respects) and the Guild Elders (Ex-Leaders of the guilds who have authing and outcasting privledges and whatnot) are for the most part very helpful. So I implore you, come visit us and see what we have to offer!
UnicornValley is a great mud, from time to time it may be down, but it is intensly fun. Lots of different areas, and friendly people. Becoming an avatar is a lot easier on this mud, unlike a lot of other months. There is a unique remort system where you must find a mob, and do a quest, and sometimes the items may vary for each quest. It is a fun mud, I've only been playing for less than a couple weeks, and I have 4 avatars, one remort, and soon-to-be another remort. The Immortals are very friendly, and whether you choose to be deadly, or nondeadly, it is fun either way, even if you regret choosing nondeadly, you can always challenge people for pking fun in the arena. So, come on down, and check out the website http://www.unicornvalley.org to see some more information about this exciting mud. I can only hope you enjoy this MUD as much as I have. I'll be honest, UV dosn't have many players. But the players we do have are almost all great and active. I've been playing UV for 5 years and I still love it. With a good Peaceful and Deadly system we can suit almost any taste. The immortals are always great and friendly. Infact I havn't met an immortal yet that I didn't like. With dozens of areas and mazes any player who loves to explore or figure things out on his own will be set. But if you don't like to explore and figure out those confusing mazes there's always someone on that knows the answers and is more than willing to help. And as someone mentioned about multiplaying I personally think it's one of the best parts. With the ability to log multiple peaceful characters and group them together you can combine their skills and spells to create a powerful group. But for the person who loves the solo each class is still strong in it's own right and almost every mob is defeatable 1 on 1 if you have enough time and money. :) Most mortals who give quests make sure to make their quests helpful and informative for the person they're given to. Most are intended to teach you something valuable about the mud that will help you improve your character. Even if your able to figure out everything there is to know about the mud there is still an increasing number of areas and classes to keep you going. But if you ever find yourself bored there's always a few creative ways to just have some destructive fun with a few friends that'll never get old. One of the parts I love most about UV is corpse retrieval. Unlike other muds i've played where your corpse will dissapear before you can get to it or you won't have enough favor to supp it. Corpses in UV last long enough for you to walk back to them or if can't... Read More
UV has become a home for me. I've been playing there for a little over a year. It is one of the best atmospheric muds I've played on. It has a smaller pbase at the moment, but can be a blast with a large one. There are 6 Guilds and 3 Orders to Join or you can go Rogue. Pkill is increasing and ever changing. The admin care about their mortals and aren't just there for show. The owner comes off his mountain and plays with the mortals. He isn't above us, just one of us with more responsibility. There will always be the unfriendly people, but you can't let one bad person ruin the whole experience. UV is constantly changing, sometimes for the good, sometimes not, but the immortals due strive to make it unique. There are several councils who also do their best to make it wicked fun. Quests are given and glory received, sometimes planned sometimes just done. MOst of the immortals on the Valley are still mortal players themselves so they are still part of the pbase. One thing about the valley is that it's sometimes quiet but never boring, you can always find someone to cause a little mayhem or just to sit around and talk. You just have to take the time to see all there is to see, and meet all there are to meet. And if you do come for a visit, chat for help, and someone will try to help.
If you are familiar to SMAUG, I strongly recommend Unicorn Valley. It has some nice additions to the original code, stock areas and a ever-growing number of unique areas. The newer areas are trying to reduce the multiplaying - one of them don't allow multiplaying - and that forces people to work as a group, which is awesome. UV also has all those common classes and also remorts and several unique skills and spells. Also pk clans, guilds and orders. One big problem there is that the MUD is lacking builders and coders. So changes happen and new things to do are created such as areas and quests but it's slower than the ideal. If you build or code and you are a SMAUG mudder, UV needs you. It's true that some council members aren't helpful at all. But some new members and leaders are surging with a different mentality and they are trying to their maximum to change this situation. Roleplaying was never encouraged but now a Council has been created to add it to the Valley. So very soon that'll be an extra ingredient of this great game.
If you've been searching for a MUD to play on, no doubt you've found many that have only a small handful of people who play there. Many of these MUDs are started by players who feel a need to create a MUD of their own which is more user-friendly and/or more fun than the one(s) they've played on. Unfortunately, many (if not most) of these MUDs fail to acquire a user-base and eventually close. Such is not the case with Unicorn Valley. The MUD has been on-line for about 7 years now, and is still growing, still building new areas and adding new code, and has a fairly decent sized player-base. There are some slow times, but within the past few days I've seen times where 30 people or more were on at once. New players also need to keep in mind that when you create a new character and type 'who', to see how many people are on-line, you can't see players who are affected by the invisibility spell. As for the review by the person who claimed that their name, "Celestial" was acceptable for every MUD except here, and that requesting a name change proves that this MUD is not user friendly...well, "Celestial" is NOT a medieval, or even a medieval-sounding name. *I* would deny that name also. Requesting a name change proves nothing about a MUD, except perhaps indicating that a MUD will not accept names that don't sound like names. I have been a MUDder for nearly 10 years, and in that time I have played on many different MUDs, with different code-bases, some better than others (UV is SMAUG-based with modifications). Why did I settle on Unicorn Valley? Well... Leveling is fairly easy, though I don't think it's quite as easy as mentioned in that previous review. The game has expanded equipment slots as well as layering abilities for armor. There are remort classes available, with new ones being added all the time. I think the total nealry... Read More
First you must know that I am an immortal on Unicorn Valley. What I say is from my view point, and does not reflect the views of players or administration. I have read a number of quite negative reviews here and would like to comment on them. I have played on a number of MUDs and they all have problems. On a small MUD like UV, we don't always have an immortal on duty, and when they are, they are usually busy with building, coding or adding classes via the remort system. We have several council in the Valley to help new people. Most of the members of these councils, Valley Mentors and the Guild Elders, do a fantastic job helping newbies or newer folks to learn their way around in the Valley. Sometimes a Mentor or a GE will be logged in but not really there, or they may even be playing the game themselves (They do deserve that!). A few people are flag collectors and if the job goes beyond authorizing a name, they suddenly are AFK. I apologize for that. We do need to do a better job of motivating and weeding out our council members. But over all they do a great job, as do they folks that aren't on councils. I have seen people spend hours helping a newbie figure out how to eat, drink, explain why this important and on and on (you add in the most simple things you can think of) only to hear them repeatedly ask why they keep falling asleep (eat and drink and you'll be ok). The thanks these helpers often get is a demand for equipment, demands for portals to leveling areas, and demands for CR's and healing (even though there are existing portals to most low level areas, a cartographers noteboard, and a very extensive newbie help board). I have to say that I am very pleased most often with how our players treat newcomers. I have also witnessed so... Read More
Unicorn Valley was a good mud when i first started playing, now its should be called Multiers Valley cause with all the changes to make it fun for the multiplayers the roleplayers and left in the dirt and newbies have no chance at all so as i see it with no new blood the muds days are numbered
This site is suppose to be user-friendly!?! Ha yeah right I started playing just last night Not one person said 2 words to me. This morning I get this message that I have no choice but to change my name if I wanna keep playing!!! I see nothing wrong with my name. I use the same name for all the mud sites and not a single other site has had a problem with it.
Unicorn valley is great, all the players are helpful and friendly! The game isn't that hard. Different species get special speels for just that type, and guilds as well. I highly recommend this mud.
I tend to be very picky about the Muds I play which is why roaming aimlessly for the year and a half it's been since I was on a Mud I _truly_ enjoyed...until I foud Unicorn Valley. The Immortals are nice and very hard working and the mortals are exceptionally friendly and always willing to help a new player and not so new player. The world is vast, never boring, and there's always something new and exciting going on. Come and check it out and go on exciting adventures with us. :) Velissa Go Jaguars! (<--- Shameless plug *grin*)
I have been playing on UV for about a year and a half, give or take a few months. But it doesn't seem nearly that long because time flies when you are truly having fun. The players are very friendly, as are the Immortals. You never know when they will play freeze tag with you, have a fun quest for those who want to participate, or simply get on their mortal players and go on a run with their order. It is thanks to my fellow players that I am where I am now. I am the first in the Jade Jaguars, and I am also building an area to help expand UV. So come on down and check us out...you will like what you see! Isabeau SilverMoon First of the Jade Jaguars
I have been a player on UV ever sence the place opened in 1999. I have met alot of great people. Made alot of great Friends. The time I spend there is becouse the atmosphere is fun, the people is fun, the mobs are fun. The Admin are the best i have ever played with. They are caring and sensire about your conserns, they try to improve the mud for everyone not just a select few. If any one ever was to ask me I would put Unicorn Valley over any mud out there, in terms of player playablitly, Diversity, Kindess, and Friendleyness. If anyone would like to know mor about the mud, Log in it wont hurt I promise, or you can e-mail me and I will be HAPPY to get you hooked on UV! Long Live Unicorn Valley, Adyton SilverMoon
