There are two continents, together make up about 20,000 rooms. Characters learn from other characters, but the first skills are learned from immortals (staff). It is classless. PKing is allowed. But PKers are deleted. A few years ago there was a pwipe and a revamp of the codebase. I've reported several bugs, some haven't been fixed for years. In my experience, they lose track of bug reports. There is one coder, and two builders. The last area was built before the pwipe. Nilgiri has a facebook group. The leveling system is common - just kill mobs. This mud has an old-school feel to it, set in medieval/fantasy times, and a very heavy experience penalty for dying. Stop by, the few players on would love to play with you.
I've played on Nilgiri on and off for about 14 to 15 years. It's always been an interesting and fun place to play and I find all roads lead back to it. Interestingly the last time I showed up and I found a lot had changed. The old class based system had been replaced with a more dynamic skill based system. Combat had been adjusted to be more in line with this new systems. While this was all new and I didn't have the foggiest as to what I was doing the IMM staff and players quickly assisted me, explaining the system. While some things still have rough edges with the changes, they are being ironed out pretty well. The implementer has been around during the entire existance of Nilgiri, he is active in the community and regular dialogue can be had about anything in game or out of game. While the player base is smaller, we are a friendly group and will give assistance to new players whenever needed. If you're looking for fresh mud mechanics, friendly IMM/IMP staff and players then this is the mud for you.
I?ve been playing Nilgiri for about 6 years now. I was 12 when I first discovered it and now I?m 18, so I?ve pretty much grown up here. This is the first mud I played and one of the nobles at the time, Almari, made me feel very welcome and taught me everything I needed to know (including how to talk, you type say before the message btw!). It?s a small community and the people I?ve met over the years are pretty close to family. We have our problems every once in a while but that?s what makes it interesting. It is a very real social place, as well as a place to game. The mud community is split into two separate continents. You have Jora, which is the original area and then you have Argoceania, which is newer than Jora (not that new, I started here!). I can?t honestly say much about Jora, as I have never really played there. It has a lot of older players though and I believe it is quite a bit bigger and Argoceania is huge itself, so that must be a lot of area. Unfortunately, not much has been added recently as Sin, the Implementor, is currently working on something really big. Hopefully, it will pick up soon though. There is a lot of history here which is also fun to uncover. I know that I will never leave Nilgiri. Just come in and give it a try. It?s newbie friendly as well as a good place for veteran mudders. My name is Ceruvil and I?m a noble in Argoceania. I hope to see you soon! =)
This is a great mud. It is one of the most original muds I have ever played. I am a little biased seeing as I started playing on this site, but I fully belive the years that it has been up lends to its originality and great player base.
Nilgiri the forgotten realm is a dynamic mud . With challanging new areas and quest appearing, frequently (at least on the Argoceanian continent). There are quite a few strong roleplaying characters and in general a very friendly and open community of adventurers . The Gods of the realm are often present and take a great level of interest in each adventurer . Clans are present but membership is not required to enjoy the game . PKing is greatly frowned upon but not illegal. The realm offers a great diversity of races and class that continue evolve new skills spells and abilities . The only great difficulty is the lack of a few more mid level areas in Argo. Really this is a well developed and very fun mud to adventure in . Hope to see you all take a peek in soon . Mordantine The Doomsday Dreadnaught *[CHAOS]*
After taking several years off from mudding, I found Nilgiri about half a year ago. To me, this is the perfect mud. Not only does it offer challenging areas to explore and great mobs (some standard, but many original), it also offers a quality of realism that I find intriguing. Just like in the world that it recreates, there is tension between players that adds a sense of danger to the mud that others do not offer. This mud is not for weak hearted players! However, if you're like me, you will find that it's this quality that makes it feel like home. Come check us out and look for Grundy, Gahreesen, Herichor, or Zigren.
I was introduced to this game by an online friend. It was the first time i have ever played a mud and I have since become addicted. within the first few moments of joining the game I was overwhealmed with people greeting me. I found the game very complicated to start with, not knowing how the commands worked but there was always plenty of people to offer advice and explain to me, (usually several times, very slowly using visual aids) about how the game works. I am far from being a good mudder but the social aspect of Nilgiri means that even I could establish myself. The game has a huge area to explore and is ever growing. The room and mob discriptions are highly creative and characters have an ever growing list of skills to practice and learn. An extensive item and equipiment list means you can search for and collect many hundred combinations to suit your stats. Nilgiri also has a clan system which helps bring drama and somtimes tension into the game with clan rivals. But there is also the Nobility, characters who have excelled in the game and who are always willing to help anyody in trouble. The immortals have a system of giving out tokens for good deeds which can be traded with other characters for equipiment or can be used to retrieve your corpse if you have died. Several quirks in the game that has given unfair advantages to certain character classes are being removed as the code is being constantly changed and updated with new features being added regulary which is constantly imroving an already amazing game. Upon registration you will be invited to choose the continant you can start on. Nilgiri has 2, Jora and argonicia. Both have very differnt equipiment, areas and mobs and a very differnt style of play. But in both you can always be sure of a kind reception from the established players and plently of help when needed. Thank you for reading this and i hope you decide to come and play Nilgiri. And if you do keep a look out for my character Ravenna. Despite my lack of skill I will do whatever i can to help you and if i can't help then chances are I know sombody who can. :)
I have played many muds,..from the late 80's to today. From what used to be Medevia, to even my own. And from the day I happened across Nilgiri about a year ago, I have been treated very well by the players of this realm. They have a large number of areas, an easy to learn combat system, and are adding things daily. Whether it be a new area or new skill, its always centered around the players having a good time. So again, having played a hundred or more different muds, moos, mushes,Lp's, I must say that Nilgiri is the place for either the seasoned adventurer,or the newbie and everyone in between. Don't get me wrong, it has a very good difficulty level as well. There are two continents seperated fromone another, so when you come to play, and you should, you can choose either Argoceania, or Jora. I play on Argoceania, drop by and take a look, someone will be happy to show you around. Tell them Cedric sent ya,...... Happy Mudding
I have been playing at Nilgiri for 2 and a half years now. I have been a noble and am now an Immortal. We have some incredible people who play in our realm. Helpful, kind, friendly, and the Immortal staff is always working on creating new areas for adventuring. We have a new coder and he is working very hard, we are very grateful to have him. I invite everyone to come and play with us, I know you'll have a great time.
Nilgiri is the first mud I ever played, and I wish I could remember how i stumbled upon it. regardless, no matter how many other muds I try, i keep coming back to this one. The people there, are for the most part, friendly and willing to lend a hand to a person in need. The classes and races arnt very complex, and you wont find any subclasses, but it keeps it simple, and fun. the bare essentials leave most of the game upto the players, although some might choose to disagree. even still, Nilgiri is the only mud i think ill ever call home.
Nilgiri is a very fun Mud . Full of dedicated players and dieties . It however has not run since 2/9/05 . For those nilgirians reading this . G'night all be thee well until we meet again my friends :) .
This is by far the best Mud I've ever played. I really like the people and the fact that there is so much you can do. If you are a beginner people are always glad to help you in anyway they can. Also the fact that the people are very kind. I can honestly say that I love everything about Nilgiri.
This is the best mud i have ever played and i have played alot. The other players in the mud are very friendy. There is so much you can do in theis mud you can buy a house, sail a ship, become a noble, there are no limits. So if your looking for a good mud this is the one.
It has been some time I have submitted a review for the world I love so much. The world has grown and we have aquired some great new players. Wars have been fought and won and lost. Clans have changed, some have grown and a new one has been born. An old one has died. I am Lady Darkara Magriel, I am a noble of the city of Subterfuge, I invite you to come and see the realm. Meet the wonderful people who live here and rule the mud. There is always something going on.
A friend had recomended this mud to me several months ago. i thought well guess ill give it a try. i kept putting it off till finally i joined. I love it. all the other characters were very helpful and it is not hard to make friends. boy is it addictive. i just cant wait til the next time i can get online. most of the other characters are quite kooky but hey who isnt. just let the wild side of you out....you know you wanna.....and have fun. thats what this mud is all about.

I've been playing this game for several months. It is incredibly HARD to quit! Its a fun mud to play any day. One thing i love about this mud is that you can see what your typing and you can tell what and who someone is just when you enter the same room! It has a bunch of players, intresting plces, and creatures of a wild imadination. Also theres tons of help going around for those nembies. So its not hard to start If you ever play and you are on the contenent of Argosenya and need help, just ask me, Lunitari. P.S. I'm sorry for anything missed spelled...
Hello friends, I am Rathe. I have been playing Nilgiri for about a year now, and it's been one of the greatest years of my life. Since the days of my very first caracter(Goro) up until now. This is what I have to say about it: I have played other MUDS and believe me, no one is as helpful as they are in Nilgiri. Everyone is willing to help a new character, or an old friend. There are two continents to choose from when you start. Jora is the easier of the two and has the most players on it. The other, Argoceania, is much harder and requires quick thinking and acting. If you are an experienced MUD player, then you might want to try Arogceania. If you don't know much about what you're doing and want nothing more than a good time, then Jora is the place for you. Thank you and cool runnings to all of you Rathe Errath the Eight Clan Order
For some reason, my review has been removed. I will therefore submit it once again. Keep in mind that this review is quite old (about 1 year), and quite a few changes has happened since then. Note: I've edited it a few places All in all though, I feel the same way about the MUD as I did when writing this review: ------------------------------------------------ First of all, I would like to point out that I have almost no experience with any other MUD. Nilgiri was the first MUD i ever played, and I was hooked from day one. I've been an active player on Nilgiri for three years now, and my oldest active character, Freyr, now has about 75 real life days playtime. Ok, now to the pros and cons... Pros: -Nilgiri is one of the oldest MUDs out there, and it has been expanding all the time. This means that Nilgiri is HUGE!!! It is said to be about 45.000 rooms, but I have never counted them... I'd say it will take you the better part of an active year to get fairly familiar with most of the areas. -Nilgiri has enourmous amounts of "something for everyone"... There are a lot of areas for every level, obviously some are better than others, but generally the areas are quite good. Certain builders stand out when it comes to making great areas though. Look for Natedog's most recent creations... There are plenty of mobs to go around, so unless you want to, there is no reason to idle :) Some of them dies almost by looking at them, whilst certain other mobs will probably never be killed. -Nilgiri currently has two continents that are not linked together. Jora is the "old" Nilgiri, where almost everyone plays. Argoceania is the new continent, where life is hard because no-one can really help you out with much of anything (besides knowledge that is). I don't know this, but it seems likely that the two continents will be linked some time in the not so distant future, simply because not enough people are playing in Argoceania. It is a pretty big place, and it would be a shame to let it not be used... (Edit: The two continents were NOT linked as I predicted, and thank god for that! Argoceania is now picking up in popularity, and several players have gotten really strong. It is not quite as hard as it used to be, but it is still quite a different experience from the continent of Jora) -Nilgiri has a very competent Implementor, Sin, who has done some awesome coding, especially the last year or two. One of the coolest things he has done so far is the Seafaring and Naval-battle part. It is totally awesome, and I doubt that you will find its likes anywhere. -Nilgiri also has other great Immortals, some has been with the MUD for years and years, and seem to really care about it. Most of the imms will...

Nilgiri is a swell land, full of wonderfull people. But, I hated rot, however it passed from the land taking with it all of the equipment which could no longer be regained and then for a time the gods where occupied with the creation of a new land but as they grew bored with it again they brought down upon us a slothfull exp gain. Capping the exp we can gain per kill, so now we're all F*cked again until its removed, hopefully it will be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it isnt I dont think that all the old players that give it so much life will ever return as they once were.
Nilgiri is a wonderful mud, everyone is helpful, even the gods. It is mandatory that newbies be helped, so that they dont get so lost. there is plenty of eq and tons of opportunities for leveling.
First I would like to say that I am the real Kerith. It is disheartening to know that someone would be so petty to use my name in a slanderous nature. Now this is what I have to say about Nilgiri: You will begin in the Temple, City of Midgaard-- founded on the ancient Norse beliefs. To walk around, you shall type n, s, e, w, u, or d; these directions are self-explanatory. Each room has a name, description, exits, and may contain objects or non-player characters (npcs/mobs). You will have a guildmaster that is well learned and will try to point you in the right direction. Nevertheless, it is a rough start. You will begin without any money, scantily clad, and a level one without much skill. Let this not discourage you, for it is easy to rise in this world-- all it takes is determination. You will die, more than once. When this happens, I will assist you with hints or my characters: Rion, a level 14 cleric/mage, and Jorin, a level 25 druid/mage/thief. Communication is the heart of this world. You can sweet-talk your way into wealth, be respected and honored - envied and possibly assassinated. Loved or hated, you will need to find a personality and stick to it. Speak to those in your room with say, privately with tell, and globally with gossip or shout. Fighting is the quickest way to progress in this game. A lot of things are based on your level, which is attained through gaining experience. Kill what you can, but it may not be a good idea to go about it with too much haste, or you will find yourself injured or dead. Dying takes away experience, one death could, in fact, undo hours of playtime. Commands like nokill, autorecall, flee, and consider will greatly aid you in avoiding danger and death. Exploration is the key to knowledge. If you try to hit every major city in the game, you will most likely wander through various other areas on your journey there. Depending on your class and desires, you may need to visit other cities. For example, druids must practice a majority of their spells in the City of Subterfuge, whereas thieves must travel to Catharsis to learn some of their more advanced arts. All in all, Nilgiri is a unique game. I cannot possibly sum it all up for you in a single review. You will learn by doing, learn by dying, learn by rising up above others with your will and strength. I am here to guide you, not to spoil you. It will be rough, it will be fun, it will be pure enjoyment. May your visit here be... interesting. -Kerith Iendal
If you're looking for a nice, relaxing place to get away from the perils of the world... This is NOT the place to come. Nilgiri is an aquired taste, you probably wont just fall in love with it the moment you come. This is a real, living, breathing fantasy realm. It stands as a world of it's own, with it's own amazing mixture of fantasy, politics, areas, and people. A few people here have suggested that that feuds in this realm are rare. Unfortunately, this is not the case. It's been a while since the last clan war, and believe me - they're brutal, but someone always seems to be bickering with someone. A few people roleplay here, but most don't... Most play simply as themselves - and therein lies some of Nilgiri's charm. Every emotion, every friendship, every alliance for the good of the realm, every bitter struggle, every triumphant success is absolutely and completely real. I think of the ancient greek mythology when thinking of Nilgiri... only we've done it all doubled over twice - and then much more. There is almost always a heated discussion going on in the realm of the gods, and though very uncommon, firey disputes among us. Like a certain god? Pray to one of us and you may incur our favour. Incur the wrath of a powerful god and you shall pay the price... There's a hierarchy among us, and some of us are nicer than others. Here, the immortals are not simply the creators of the world, but they're a large part of the 'game', if you could even call it that. Further, there are those who have achieved near-superhuman powers. Some have achieved their incredible strength on their own, while others have taken advantage of overly-generous gods. One thing that may trouble newcomers is the killing of human and humanoid creatures. NPC's are almost treated like cattle by the strong - to some, almost always the sole purpose of an NPC is to be killed. While many of our players have no problem with this practice, there is no reason a player would have any trouble succeeding to greatness in our beloved mud without killing one human NPC... in fact, all new players default to give 'mercy' to all foes they attack, which will leave the foe stunned - but not dead. Anyway, I may have pushed you away too much:) If you read the other reviews you can see how much these people love this mud. The people are great and thoughtful and entertaining. Maybe you'll find one day that Jazmin and I are rambling on in the realm about some crazy thing or another, or perhaps you'll get a glympse of Herzak's flock of undead ducks. Perhaps you'll witness the awesome glory that is Glowboy, perhaps you'll meet the elusive and inhuman Inferno, or maybe even such titans as Hind or Snoop. For those who are new, rest assured that there is almost always someone ready...

Hello, fellow adventurers! I would like to tell you about my favorite place to explore, connect with others, and have a fabulous time...it's Nilgiri, the Forgotten World! I have been around Nilgiri off and on (as connections permit) for over seven years. I have witnessed this mud go from only a handful of players to having many players on two continents, with a myriad of combinations of player abilities. I find Nilgiri to be non-threatening to new players, and challenging with lots of flavor for those who are veterans of the game. The Immortal realm is both entertaining and helpful, as they offer a variety of quests - from essays to adventure-oriented quests- and are a tremendous support system for all the mortals in the realm. Although sometimes it is difficult to keep up with some of the changes, it is always a worthwhile experience to be there! I will play Nilgiri, the Forgotten World, for many, many moons to come! Grand Adventuring to you all! Spicey, the Siamese Pixie
I am pretty new to the world of Nilgiri, I have only been playing for roughly 2 months or so. I didn't know what to expect when I was told of this game, so I didn't go into it with any preconcieved notions. I have found it to be delightful and somewhat scary, in references to the various mobs and dragons that can kill a newbie. I have encountered wonderful people, mortals and Immortals alike. The players in the World of Nilgiri are helpful and kind. The Immortals and the creators of the game have worked very hard and diligently creating a world that you can have fun in and work hard to level in and explore. I have died a few times, but its worth it. This is one of the finest games I have ever played. I know I will stay with this world.
I have been a player of Nilgiri the Forgoten Realm for well over 5 years now. In that time I have came up with this review on my opinions of this mud. The social structure of Nilgiri is fullfilling and a delight. Players who are mortals and are seasoned veterans of nilgiri are both friendly and helpful to new players. There are both social Immortals and Immortals who are builders and social. They both interact with the mortals and eachother creating a very friendly helpful atmosphere. The areas are detailed and candy to the eye to read. The creaters are both dedicated and set on making areas that the players will come back to over and over to explore. The creation of character is in depth letting you choose name, race, wieght, hieght, left hand, right hand, homeland, dice roll, color of hair, color of eye, skin tone, and probly some I have forgotten. You can write a detailed description of your character making it a very fun imaginitive way of character creation. The searching out and destroying of mobs to gain levels is exciting and fun. The mobs are also in detail and much work and effort into making a wide range of mobs and different areas to make the leveling experience a enjoyed time. The mobs range in level and strengths making certain areas recomended for certain levels only. Each area you can check and it will let you know what levels are recommended for that area making the leveling very user friendly. There is a ranking system within the mud that lets you no where you stand i the mud. The system goes by time, experience, kills, and areas you have been in. This is another way the creaters have made Nilgiri more enjoyable giving those who are competative the desire to be number one making the mud that much more fun. My overall opinion of Nilgiri The Forgotten World is of high recomendations for other mudders to try it out once, for after one time you are sure to be hooked. Overall gameplay and Imagination I give it a 9 out of 10 for all muds can become better and are never perfect. Nilgiri is is close to perfect is you get:)
My name is Zagarna and I am a high level mortal and I have been playing this mud for about four years and this is what I have got to say about it: The strength of the mud is based on how many people play in it. Currently, there isn't as much people as there used to be, but I still think it is a fun place to hang around in. I believe that generally, the people in this mud are quite friendly so most of the time, newbies won't feel so left out. If you are a newbie and you have a question, feel free to send a tell to one of the high levels who are online (If you don't know who the high levels are, anybody with a clan title indicator should know the answer to a question you are asking). However, try not to get too annoying or else they might ignore you. There is a wide variety of people in this mud. Some of them prefer to stay very quiet while others like to talk a lot. Haruon and Jazmin (for example) are very social players, so these are the types of people you might want to ask help from. Other players like buffy Glowboy and Snoop tend to mind their own business and kill mobs to level. Players like these don't talk a lot, but they do leave a good trail of corpses :) There are also clans that you can join once you become strong and dedicated enough to this mud. There is the Friendly Clan (which specializes in helping newbies and being friendly), the Godetan Clan (full of elite warriors), the Order Clan (attempts to bring order), and many many other clans that you can join. Each clan has their own rules and members often automatically unite together to form a longlasting friendship. There are also Nobles in this mud whose purpose is to preserve the realm. The most interesting thing to do in this place is probably to explore. Explore, explore, explore! Don't get discouraged when you die, and hopefully you will learn from the mistakes you made. However, it is difficult to find anything else to do after you have explored the whole realm, maybe except for leveling and waiting for quests. Quests are run by immortals. Yes, there are immortals in this mud. Their job is to create areas, socialize and to look for improvements. However, try not to annoy them too much because they could horrible things to you. There are also different races and different classes with different skills that you can select from. Each race and class has their own advantages and disadvantages, and I'm not too sured whether they are balanced or not. Well, overall, I think this mud is a very interesting place to hang around in and I have to admit that it can get very addictive sometimes. Currently, some people are not playing this mud because the changes are way...

I am fully aware that I have already posted this once before, but sometimes it is nice to re-read things! It might be a little out-dated as things do change but the majority of it still rings true so enjoy ;) Jaz DikuMUD Nilgiri, the Forgotten World by Jazmin I have been playing Nilgiri for almost three years. I don't pretend to know everything about it, nor do I expect everyone to agree with me on what I have to say. But as my opinion, here goes ;) There is a very tight knit community at Nilgiri. Almost everyone knows each other which is fantastic when you need help, advice or just a chat. However I can see that it would be difficult for newbies to become actively involved. Newbie-helping does still remain so never fear! A lot of our higher level players get just as much out of helping newbies as they do from levelling (I hope!) Most of the players there are friendly and helpful, many are powerful. Many use this to their advantage in getting what they want; some do not. What does remain is that if you turn to the right people, you will get the help you need. As for player-killing, it is a pk MUD. Most of the players on Nilgiri do not like player-killing. We have guards and deputies and militia to help cope with this. However... if you are not careful... As a general rule it is nice that there is the option to pk if the player deems it neccesary to do so. Others who do not condone pk often take the law into their own hands in dealing with the more... "unsavoury" characters. I never have been killed by a PC therefore I have never seen a problem with the pk laws of Nilgiri. The areas and rooms are wonderful! We have much to thank our builders for as they have done wonderful jobs over the years. I especially liked the umm... how shall I put this... genetically challenged nurse in one of our main cities; Catharsis. However it got changed which *was* a pity ;) I personally love the way that things aren't always what they seem; If you take the time to pay attention to the room descripts you may find things you weren't expecting. It is always worth a search. However it is all too easy to use Mages and Clerics etc. to zip around the world and summon less "intellectual" classes. This doesn't really promote exploration in the traditional sense. The size of Nilgiri is amazing. There is always something new to find and the areas are constantly being reviewed. It is still growing too with no plans on stopping its growth. This in itself is a great achievement and keeps the Nilgirians on their toes... Especially when they die to that dragon they could solo last week!! (That's just me being mean now!) We have three major clans at the moment. Godetan Natedog,...

I have been playing this mud for quite a while (in my perspective anyway) and would like to say, "It's great!" The IMMs, IMPs, and little people (hey, that's me!) are extremely friendly most of the time. We are all real people and sometimes get mad at each other, but that makes it even more real! There aren't too many people on at once, so the game doesn't usually lag, but there are enough for a good quest or to make adventerous friends. It's not like they ignore use wee-folk either, I had an idea for player shop keepers, and it was implemented into the game. Now, I own my own shop, that's really has a house above it and a dragon below; a shopkeeper's staff, used to transport items from my inventory to the magical storage room; a warship ,used in quests and large games of battleship (hehe.) Well, my point is, I've played several other muds in my life and even IMPed on a few, but I countiously keep coming back to this one. -~Oneonta~-
-= The Forgotten World =- To get the basic hoop-la information out of the way. There are 5 classes all very unique and powerful in their own ways. They are the Brave Warriors, the Powerful Magic Users, the Cunning Thieves, the Mysterious Druids, and the Loyal Clerics. Races are one of the newer changes the Gods and Goddesses have added to make the realm to make it more "interesting." Each race is very desinct to all the others. They differ in everything from hair color to wieght. And of course each race has differnt advantages and disadvantages. This is a pk mud even though it is frowned upon. So many people have joined together in clans, loose alliances, and true friendships. Now on to the good stuff. There is so much to do here, no matter what you feel like. There is always someone on to just sit and talk to or even go out on a hunt. If your imagination can come up with it. It has found a home somewhere in this wide realm. The 3 billy goats who tried to cross the trolls bridge have even come to call this place home. Now I want you to close your eyes (metaphorically) and imagine a bustling city, filled with the cries of the shop owners peddling their wares, innkeepers pouring cheer, and city guards keeping the peace. Now your view expands out, slowly showing more and more of the surrounding lands. There are vast, lucious green forests, and deep jungles hide many exotic creatures. Dark foreboding castles and towering mountain ranges just begining to be conquered. Azure oceans and gurgling rivers ready to be sailed. Small islands with a unique culture all there own. All with secret paths and treasures to explore or even ripe to have a brave adventurer hack and slash his own path. You may even find hidden passages, long lost to all others. The Gods and Goddesses are nearly always around. Creating new lands, sinking islands, and even toying with the lives of mortal men and women with their quests and personal pets. I will not lie to you and tell you there are always tons of people on or that there is more people that play here than everquest. People come and people go. And more often than not they come back again (funny that). Most of us who play consistently are decent enough people. Ready to lend a hand to each other when it is needed or even escort a new player around and show him the ropes. But there are those who love to be the source of chaos, and destruction. It all adds to the diversity and excitment of the realm. Now, in my personal opinion. This is my utopia. This is my home away from home. I find it very strange the way a mere free online game could draw people together like it does. Everyone who plays here becomes good friends. They email each other, on...

I may not be a hard core mudder or anything when it comes to most muds, but that doesnt mean I havnt tried alot of muds. Out of all the muds that I have tried though this is by far my favorite. That isnt only thanks to all the areas to explore that can emmerse you in a whole nother world it is also thanks to the numerious clans..a noble council that helps mortals change the mud for the better also...and the wonderfull ideas that the gods(and mortals too) come up with...but out of the things I have mentioned already and all the things I'm sure I missed I have to say my favorite thing about this mud are the peeple themselves...they are very open minded and a great cultural diversity...of many different walks in life which adds to the environment all the more....but no matter how long I sit here and tell you about it I dont think I could ever capture exactly what it is that makes this mud better then all the rest...so I suggest you just take a second to try it and see....you'll find out what I mean
I have been playing Nilgiri for almost 6 years now. Nilgiri itself is over 10-12 years old. Never have i become so immersed in a mud. The code has been so modified that it feels just so real. I know that I don’t know everything about it but I know enough to say that it’s the best mud ever. It’s a great game and if you’re not too good at it you can learn from others, and then practice. There are players of all ages, from children to much older gamers, and mental skills are wide and varied. Nilgiri is newbie friendly, although you could find yourself lost with no-one to help you. This is still pretty unlikely. If you see more players online, you will get the best advice along with the best treatment from most of the players. Nobles in our realm are active mortals are always ready to help newbie with any kind of problems. Nilgiri has 5 classes and 8 races to choose from, and each one of them with their own advantages and disadvantages. When you start, you will see that most of the players are either humans, thieves and clerics. Mages, the class I call to be the most aggressive since a weak mage with his spells can prove to be powerful. Druids right now are being modified and with so much improvement there is no doubt that sooner or later they will be the best class of all. Clans... How can I forget the clans? We’ve got Friendly, Masamune, Godetan, Chaos, AoN, Order, Stars and the Red clan. The only mortal clan is the Red, run by some elite mortals who have been in and out of the mud for the past 5-6 years. Each clan has its own advantages and each God is updated with the status of their clan, whether it be wars or upcoming events. The staff on Nilgiri keeps mostly to themselves although they are constantly watching for rule violators; they build, add new help files, update the webpage, add new code and run the mud consistently. Most of the time, their rulings are fair, but sometimes personal grudges between the staff and the mortals create long lasting arguments, but again, this is very rare. The staff also looks out for the best interests of the mud and look for solutions that will satisfy the greatest lot of the player base. Nilgiri is a pk mud, no doubt about that. The PK system is original. Player Killing in mud has become totally unbelievable and there’s nothing to do than to dream about old times when someone actually fought 1 vs. 1. During clan wars, groups consisting of 4 players and up to 10. You die in a pk situation simply because you don’t have time to flee, or recall, even if you start out healthy. Clan wars are very rare although there is just one pk clan which has done some unbelievable damage to most of mortals...

Nilgiri, The Forgotten World. An unresistable, mud. I've been stuck with it for almost 5 years now. I love this muds' multiple verities of entertainment, and that's what tapped me in Nilgiri. Leveling and exploring the ever expanding rooms gives it the thrills and chills. The chill of challenging the legendary beast, and the thrill of new items obtained. Union of heart through out the game is what makes this game most enjoyable. The purpose of having mud online is to emphasize the interaction onine. Knowing this, an ever growing Nilgiri of the forgotten world has satisify it's purpose. Nilgiri has made interaction between new and old players with a uniform principle; Fun. As you venture deep into the forgotten world of Nilgiri, you will find more compelling reasons for choosing Nilgiri as your favorite mud. Action speaks louder than word. you never know until you try them.
Nilgiri, the forgotten world has been my home for going on 6 years now. The mud has many unique factors that add to making overall satisfaction when attaining things. The world of nilgiri has grew into almost a galaxy. With a numerous amount of areas, no more low level areas than high level ones. We might not have a player base of 100 but what we do have is a unity of players. Everyone getting to know someone. So when we come on we dont feel as though we are alone. But can sit and have conversations with other players that get to become close friends and help in the world. We have an immortal staff that cares about the realm. Almost at all times is an immortal present and visible to asnwer some questins or just talk. There are many classes and races to select from. All that speak a common language and also their race's language. I myself try to help 2 or 3 newbies a day to keep them feeling comfortable and spark up convo's as i help them in their ever vigilant rise to power. Out of the wake clans are also available. But you must prove to be very honest and have alot of valor and be very proud of your self. All and all the enviroment is a very awesome enviroment and sure to change your life in mudding. For when you begin this mud when you open the window for the first time and create your character: REMEMBER you are the next generation and with generations comes friends and almost family(clans). I have seen 1 generation fade only to bring a new one about. So come on over and have the time of your life.
Clan Review: Masamune Relatively new in founding, the Masamune clan is nonetheless based on the timeless principles of integrity, fidelity, camaraderie, and discipline. Anyone with a decent reputation and reasonable knowledge of the realm is welcome to join though successful admission depends for the greater part on referral by current clan members. In most such cases the supreme leader Sephiroth has the final say. Technically Masamune is egalitarian despite the ranking system that has recently been established. The opinions of members are always valued as assets, and though not everyone may agree on a particular topic they always explain themselves to support their thoughts. Positions in the clan are more of responsibilities than a means of bolstering one’s ego. The minister of war manages battle strategies and is always followed during times of conflict. The minister of propaganda initiates and oversees developments that may serve to enhance Masamune’s reputation and also handles intelligence reports from the clan’s many informants. The minister of justice deals with offenses to the clan be it caused by a member or someone outside. Essentially the ministers’ duty is to ensure the security of the clan and the furtherance of its cause. Over time Masamune gained a reputation for excellence and became both feared and respected. Its members slew some of the greatest creatures ever to grace the world of Nilgiri. Now the clan’s true strength lies in the ability of its members to work as a team. “In unity lies strength”, and Masamune members have without fail rallied together in times of conflict. It is this that enabled the clan to deliver victory after victory in every war it has fought. The Order clan, once hailed as the mightiest in the realm, crumbled into nothingness after two disastrous defeats at the hands of Masamune. More recently the clan was dastardly attacked by an underground thief organization and one of its members was killed and looted. After negotiations broke down Masamune dealt a series of crushing blows that rendered the enemy without options other than to unconditionally surrender. Contrary to what some may say, Masamune continues to demonstrate leniency in its affairs with others. As a policy, force will always be the last resort, and the clan is always open to any means of resolving conflict without violence or bloodshed. Several times already war was averted due to this diplomatic approach. It is only in extreme cases involving treachery or irrationality when the clan will move to strike first. I am proud to be a member of this great clan. Unprecedented unity and excellent leadership make it one of the best in the realm. I also believe, that as it is founded on such unshakeable principles, it will certainly stand the test of time and continue to flourish.
Nilgiri....what an interesting place to be. ive been around nilgiri for atleast 5 years... an ive made a name for myself. i am the unsavory element that exists in our mud.. well thats enough about me.. oh yeah one more thing.. i am not immortal or noble. i am here to play the villan.. the players of nilgiri are some of the most dedicated you will find...most have been playing for multiple years..they are helpful an will work as a group. no mud by any means is perfect. nilgiri is constantly changing an growing. it is an easy place to roleplay. you can be the charactor you want to be. niligiri is 99% original..its designed by its players...hard work an time are required to accomplish this but to see your creation interact with players is a marvelous thing. the players on the mud are a tight group..we have so many different types of players though. most seem to wanna work together..but there are some that work alone..an some people like me who try an teach people how to player kill without destroying a charector. my opionion is extremely biased because i have never put any real time into another mud. ive found my home. i have a place here.. i suggest giving our realm a shot an seeing if its fun for you. if you need help. ask.. an someone will walk you threw. Fear The Mindkiller..
Before I give my review on Nilgiri, I will let it be known that I am an ex-Nilgirian. I was a deity level, and was exposed to nearly everything for a period of 2 years (give or take a couple months). This could result in an opinionated review that may not be seen coming from most _players_ of the game. I would first like to review the concrete code of the game. Nilgiri, in most areas of code, has the most impressive organization, color, and presentation of code. To help corroborate my standpoint, examples are the unique color coding of male-female-neuter, room descriptions, and the color coding of classes (spells and fighting). Another example may be the attempt at detailed fantasy skills/spells. The druid class excites me most of all, my contribution or not. The unique earthen like spells separate the class from all others in the game. Nilgiri's downside is the management. To a player it may have little impact. Though the playerbase has had to deal with multiple changes that may have damaged some playtime and achievements. The weak immortal structure was always at war with itself, from my stay there, atleast. Solely from a player's standpoint, little does get in the way though. Nilgiri went through many periods of trying to "balance out." By this, I mean adjusting skills/levels/classes, etc. One poor decision was multi-classing, and was the cause of a lot of trouble. Some of Nilgiri's uniqueness faded upon creation of such a thing. Another poor decision was creating a popularity and ranking system, among immortals and players respectively. This simply created arguments, and the statistics could not at all be exact. That would lead one back to Nilgiri's management, so I will stop there and continue on with a summary. All in all, I rate Nilgiri as an excellent MUD to drop by, give a try, and let the addiction start. On a scale of 1-10, the roleplaying environment is at a 2. While the code somewhat supports it, most mortals and immortals alike are insensate to thought and order (worsened after my exit). I would rate the fighting and exploration at an 8, of 10, in that there are many areas, and zounds of rooms, NPCs, and objects to seek out. Those are my thoughts, and that is the legendary Forgotten World. My stay there will never be "forgotten." -Kerith (Rion or Gelu)
I have been playing Nilgiri for almost three years. Godetan under Natedog, Masamune under Sephiroth and Friendly under Sin. All are unique in their own sense and all equally as proud. Currently all seems to be well at the moment with no obvious threat of a clan war... but who knows... things change - let's just hope there isn't! spices...

This mud is a fun mud. It is simple, and not hard to understand There is all sorts of people in the mud good and bad, this mud also is a full pk mud means if you dislike someone you can fully express it by killing them. This mud is like water, is can be fun and relaxing or tense and sad. There is also clans in the mud. Godetan, Masamunes, Friendly. You will find good shelter in any one of them. There are postions like the Nobles and mythrils and Immortals. Mobs range for level 1 and above. Leveling mobs, quest mobs, item mobs, all sort of different mobs. and like most mud games. Magic is required. there are agressive magics like fireball, defensive magic like Armor, area magic like prismatic spray, healing magics such as miracle. all those magic enchant the fun of this mud, and what I think if best of all is that, YOU CAN CHAT ALL YOU LIKE!. You can be humours you can be aggressive, you can fully express your self in this mud. but so long if there is no swearing involved :P. I'm pretty much sure that people will help newbies after all, we need more newbies in this mud. Herzak
Despite what the description says, this mud has full PK available to players. The masses of quest equipment doesn't leave any newbie to wonder why no one above level 20 ever helps anyone else but themselves. There is a poor sense of camraderie or the want to group with other people since there are no benefits to doing so. Almost all the classes are fairly unbalanced and the availability of permanent sanctuary and detect-types of equipment make it nearly useless to play clerics or mages. The mud has potential, but it definitely needs more players, less quests, and more roleplaying. It is an extremely difficult mud to retain interest in or have fun.
