Abattoir is a very good mud with some glaring faults. There is seldom anyone on the mud including imms. The system for advancement requires that you complete a quest before you can advance to the next level. Not much trouble at lower levels, but you are soon up against mobs that exceed your level and are near impossible to defeat. This frustrates players and they don't return. You can buy or find almost any type of potion or scroll except FLY. As some of the quests require that you be able to fly, another point of frustration. Finally, you may request to join a guild but as there are NEVER any guild leaders on to induct you, it may be months before you are allowed in. I don't know why induction is not automatic anyway. It's not like they are having huge guild wars or anything. Once again, great potential but it is dying. Too bad. A few simple fixes and it would be a great mud.

The quests may seem impossible to some, but every immortal on the wizlist and every remort on the website has actually completed every one. We prefer to add a little extra challenge so that you can't hit the top level purely via grinding away at the same old monsters, and this in turn makes levels more valuable. We're not aiming at the 'hit avatar in a day' market. On the other hand, if there are specific quests that are a significant problem, let us know. There are few cases where flying is necessary for a quest - sometimes floating will suffice. It is possible to purchase an object in one of the low level areas that gives you flying ability. Exploration is the key here. As for guilds and orders, the leader does not have to be online at the same time as you to induct you, so it's not typically as hard to get inducted as you suggest, although guilds have been inactive for some time in favour of the orders. Neither guilds or orders are essential for progression so it's not that important, really.

Abattoir consists of many original areas, with many more puzzle based themes than I've seen on other MUDs. The imms are friendly and very helpful. As a whole, the MUD is very newbie friendly; with many players being willing to assist those either unfamiliar with abattoir or unfamiliar with the mudding experience as a whole. It is rare when there is not an immortal online, so any problems are quickly addressed. I've played on many MUDs and I've found Abattoir to be my MUD of choice and my cyber home.
If you plan on mastering this game, then beware the imms. I have mastered it. I enjoyed it for awhile, then I immed. When I entered the imm world I saw more than I wanted, these people are devious. I built one area for them, planned another, and even though they rejected it, I still built it offline. Anyhow, after that and many months of boredom I remorted. I have partially brought this upon myself, the random killings by them that is(it's jsut because I'm a pkiller. I had a room built for myself in my area, you'd think they would let me keep it since I built the place, I shuold at least have some reward from it. Not only did they take it before my eyes, but one of the imms I considered a close buddy took over the room. I can go on and on about the imms, but that would take too long. If you want more details, or want to complain about be complaining, feel free to e-mail me.
