The learning curve initially is deep, but it is easy to settle into after the basics have been picked up. Players are generally helpful and registered newbie helpers are a very good asset to the mud. Everdark is one of the most detailed muds to this day. If you see it in the description then you can most likely look at it or manipulate it. Character development is fairly straight forward. You can choose from 9 different guilds of which all have a unique build or two depending on your stats. Questing is encouraged as are the rewards from them. Questing is not required to level but it can greatly reduce the time it takes to level up. Beyond leveling, questing and stats. RP is encouraged though not required. Everdark focuses more on the player and the enviroment of the realm. We have a expansive Nobility and House(Clan) system. Player Killing is possible and will cost you should you be the one getting killed. There's much much more but I don't like writing reviews. I prefer you come check out Everdark yourselves. Maybe you'll see me :)

I've played EverDark now for several years and in all of that time the game continually renews itself. There are so many fun aspects to the mud that there's always another goal to strive towards. That being said, I just want to say a few things about two of the things that makes everdark special... the quality of the setting and our unique player-killing system. The overall setting of EverDark is somewhat Tolkienish, with a feudal times of knights mixed with the lore and evidence of dragons and orc, elves and dwarves, and all manner of creature in between. Of course, the way you play is totally up to you, everdark leaves the choices of how you look and even what race and physical traits you wish to show, solely at your discretion. The quality of the mud's room description can really set the standard for the whole playing experience, and this is where EverDark leaves many other muds in the dust. The majority of rooms within this realm have several layers of details you can reveal through close scrutiny. This adds to the quality in that this realm is not a cookie-cutter prepatterned mud, but a unique and high-quality environment. This, in addition to the overall appealing setting work to pull the player in and entertain to no end. Another unique feature that players may choose to pursue is our player-killing system, often referred to in short as Xal. Basically at level 18 or above you may become Xal if you wish, and may battle and hunt other Xal players. If you do not wish to participate that is fine as well, simply don't opt into becoming Xal. The main thing that makes our player-killing system so extraordinary is how much actual skill is required to defeat your opponents. The guilds and their skills as well as the level and stat system are balanced so well, that a person with skill could be level 18 of any guild and potentially defeat a level 30 player. When pking, the battle is a open=system where there is no limitations on regular movements, allowing for strategic retreats or all out attacks and so much variety. Pking isn't everyone's thing, and that's fine...but it is great fun for many others and its a very unique feature that EverDark offers its players.

This is indeed a very descriptive and interactive MUD. You can look at, smell and listen in each room. Everything you see in a room description you can normally get more details on. I can see where the builders actually cared about what they were building. However, it is not consistent. Some rooms you can try to look at walls or floors, etc and it returns 'There is no south wall'. And since this MUD forces you to quest that can get frustrating. The description here says quest are available. Actually, they are required. Oh sure, you can level and raise stats without them but if you do not complete them you start getting penalties enforced on your advancing. It all costs more. Much, much more. You pay gold and experience to train stats and level up. Do it without questing and even at a low level it gets costly. Also there is no consistency on quests. Some are well done and the NPCs interact with you and answer questions and help it all make sense. On others the NPCs do not interact, at all and the brief quest description is super vague. Something like: 'Found within the walls of Dr. Frazzles house is a very important skill, used by all. Exploring this area will be both profitable as well as helpful when killing monsters.' The NPCs do not interact, you have no idea what your goal is and quest help or hints from players is forbidden. And normally there is 1 wizard visible but he tends to be hours idle. Newbie friendly? Ok. No. Recall High School and cliques? Welcome to Everdark. They allow multiplaying. So they all assume you are a current player. And will ignore you. Even if you try and interact and rp with them. It has a small player base and they are all tight with each other. The newbie garden is fantastic as far as teaching you about the realm. The newbie areas are crap. And super limited. One it lists as perfect for new players is only good from level 3 and up. You can kill chickens. There are 4. They reset every 30 min. You can sell the feathers for 6-10 coins. A healing ale is 25 coins and heals a whopping 5 hit points. And there is an enforced gift limit. So other players, should they chose to help, can only give you X amount a day or get zapped. So yes, it is fantastic in detail but it is not newbie friendly, quests are not enforced but required anyway and may make no sense at all, no one will trust you and at low levels the healing system makes no sense. It costs more to heal then you get from several kills.

Well I started playing EverDark back in 2002, it was my very first mud. Though I have experimented with a few other muds, this is truly THE ONE. We have a lot of varied stuff, to be done in EverDark. We have several guilds, including the all powerful mage guild, which helps for players to find just the right one for their characters. Our nobility is based around all other aspects of EverDark life, questing, role-playing, and work within the guild and house systems. There's just a ton to do in this Realm, and I'd really hate to see you miss out on any of it :)
Everdark is a lot of fun for me. There are lots of things to kill and area's to explore. All sorts of area's, from goodie goodie towns to deep dark swamps and evil fortresses where EVERTHING attacks you. Its a lot of fun for me because I like new things, and they are always updating their stuff. New areas, new skills, new quests. All good stuff. Medri d' Aziir-Balar
I have dwelled in the realm of EverDark for approximately 10 years. I am a faerie who has found a home serving the Dark gods and mastering each of the guilds before returing to the Ranger's guild. I searched other realms to see if I could find a more fitting home when I was younger, but none compared to EverDark. The realm is constantly being improved, even when I thought it couldn't get any better. The wizards put so much time and energy into making it a great place to be. After 10 years of citizenship... I still have quests to complete and people to kill! -Synn Fyrisyra mac Lir Loyal citizen of EverDark (Come check us out!)
I am Drako, and have played EverDark from time to time. Though I am not as active as I would like to be I still can appreciate what a great place EverDark is. They have great puzzles for new players, those new to muds all together wouldn't have too much trouble either. I haven't had the opportunity to invest much time into this game, but I sure would like to. The room descriptions are all unique and you can look at most anything. Though I haven't gotten to know as many players as I would like to, those that have crossed my path have been very helpful. I recommend this game for anyone looking to have fun in a great place.
Hi, I'm a former player and the newest addition to Everdark's team of Wizards. I first started playing Everdark around 1998-99 at the age of 13. At first I found the quest system very frustrating and hard but with the help of the our great and dedicated team of Wizards and some very nurturing players, I became very much entwined in Everdarkian life and then began to rave quests and puzzles of the realm. Back then I was just greatly obsessed with questing and killing. The player killing system was fun, challenging, and actually required skill, and tactics, and believe me there was skill needed as when I started, I probably filled Cheers (Our local tavern) with my many corpses from failed bouts. But as I progressed in skill, I also progressed in roleplaying. I had parents, I had wives, even children in some of my past lives. But eventually settled in with a persona that lasted many years and gained me many positions of power and prestige. The thing that really accented mine and others persona's were personal items. A personal item is an item crafted by the Wizards, for enhancing your roleplaying capability. I myself had a Magical Sphere dedicated to the god Targonnith. Targonnith being and destructive, chaotic god, allowed me to predict a fight between myself and another and show who would be the victor, wether it be me or not, and how that person killed the slain. That was just one of the features this sphere had, and when creating a personal item, it is only really limited by your imagination, although there is some restrictions on what can be made. Since my asscention to wizard hood nearly a year ago, there has been some massive changes to the realm which I think greatly improve it, such as the New Drinking System, the Expanded Plains, and the many little changes that have tweaked the realm. The new drinking system, now allows for drinks to have an instant heal, and a smaller more "natural" repetitive heal. The Expanded Plains now holds greater mysteries than before and allows a better flow to the soon to be finished River Quest, which may be ready in just two weeks. Alm
I began playing everdark around 6 years ago. As a noobie, many people were always offering assistance, always helping me with equipment that I needed. Slowly but surely over 6 years, I joined the ranks of player killing, as well as the nobility, and belong ed to multiple houses. Everdarks PK system is by far the best I have ever encountered in any mud I have ever played. A lvl 20 always has a chance against a higher level, depending on their skill in using their spells. As well, the politics of being in a house and being in the nobility, make this game intriguing and a pleasure to log onto every morning. The wizards, most notably Bax, Sezrak as well as Rowan, Phoebe and Skywise, work tirelessly to ensure that Everdark is an interesting place to play, and a place where you will want to log onto again and again.
i have recently started this mud. As a new player i recommend this to everyone. New and old alike will enjoy this game it rocks.
Everdark has something for everyone. Many guilds to choose from each with their own set of skills. You can be whatever you want, your fantasy is our reality. Friendly people always willing to help will make this one of your more enjoyable places to visit. To steal a line from Sony....Live in your world, Play in ours! Come join us!
A Review on Everdark... Well I have been playing Everdark for many years now. It is almost my break from reality or my home away from real life. Everdark is a very fun mud, the only one I have found that I actually like. The mud provides challanges mentally and physical. It also provides friendships. Granted you wont get along with everyone due to a few bad seeds in and out of any life. You are offered a chance to prove yourself and become a part of the nobility once you have reached a certain level as well as be a part of a house system. In most cases your house is like family. But you must obtain a certain level to do that as well. You can gain these levels by doing quests. The quests are good for the most part yet there are times you just want to pull your hair out *grin* none the less if you like the challange and dont like giving up that would be something for you. Lastly there is the pk (player kill system) Not everyone will do this but alot will. It is a great thing and it also teaches you to know where you are going and create the speed to get there combined with the spells to cast on other players. (instead of just NPC's) But as for now I hope to be seeing some of you there. Naudia D'Aramis
I was introduced to my first mud, EverDark, in January of 2004. In that time I have grown from just a simple newb to one of the most active and outspoken players in the realm of EverDark. EverDark has so much to offer whether it be the nobility, player-killing, quests, guilds or just simple role-play. The are quests that focus on strength and others on intelligence, but most have a mixture of the two. We have 9 guilds so you will likely be able to find the one that fits just right for you. Our nobility encourages activity and role-play in all aspects of the realm. This is an excellent place for a newb or for experienced mudders or anyone else between
I just started playing but already I enjoy the camraderie of the players. It is a very good place to just lose yourself for a few hours. I have enjoyed the experience very much.
I've been playing Everdark for a number of years now (nearly 10). The things I think I like best is the number of guilds and quests for characters. Everdark offers a fantastic realm for exploration. Quests are balanced for levels of characters, so that people new aren't killed too frequently while trying to solve the quests, yet those who are higher in level also have quests to challenge their skills. Everdark provides the opportunity for players to join the nobility. There is also an abundance of role playing to keep things fresh. Finally, active "wizards" that keep the realm even more exciting with "discoveries" of new areas from time to time. This MUD is a must visit.
If you haven't yet been to the lands of Everdark, you don't know what you are missing. As a long-time player (and yet, there are others who have been there quite a few years more than I!), this is one of the better muds. The code is well-written, and the quests range from easy to the very complex! As a person who loves to quest, I have enjoyed questing immensely! The quests are well-done. You really feel like you are there. There are some really outstanding quest rewards, which make it all worth while. The interaction between you and the NPCs can be quite interesting, and informative. Patience and perserverance pays off very well. The Immortal staff are a great group of hard-working people, and I admire their talent and imagination. There is a house system, and a Nobility, both of which I belong. Membership to either one is not required, but I'd suggest it to enhance role-playing. Although RP is not enforced, it's well-done by the players when it happens. When you first visit, I'd recommend taking a tour with Nyame, the NPC newibe guide. The tour is quick and painless, but informative. And if you're up to it, especially if you are new to mudding, visit the newbie garden. The help files are pretty good, but if you have questions, most all of the players and staff are helpful. The short "help dying" file is a must-read. It basically says that if you die, and a Cleric is on who can resurrect you, then you won't lose as much experience as if you were not ressed. It's quite an interesting experience. I don't know about you, but I can't tell much about a mud by just popping in and staying a few minutes then quitting. I'd encourage you to stay awhile. Heck, bring some friends and play together. :) There's so much more to Everdark than the mud listing shows or that I can say here. Come join us and see for yourself. See you there! Nina
Good mud. Lots of rooms. specialized areas for newbies. Players help newbies. Quest become more challenging as you advance. Many different role playing options.
In my existance at everdark, I have had some great times, and experiences with the players and even the Wizards. When you need help theres always someone at yur side helping. There is no limit within the Role-playing, and the Pk battles rock. We all love it when we see new players commite to playing, and logging in, even tho rl is not involved in the game if real life problems occure theres always someone to talk to, we dont think of everdark as just a game, we all think of it as HOME. There is always something to keep you busy like nobility, houses, families, pk, role playing or just sitting in cheers having a great time with the players. Trust me there is no mud to compare with everdark. Log in, check it out, and stay awhile, its worth it! thanks
Disclamer: Everdark is a sister substance to crack. You will become addicted. This is the best mud I've found, and I've tried out alot of them. I'll list the positives and negitaves. + Equipment saved during reboots!!! Simple game mechanics. No multi classing. Easy to learn skills. No complicated random stat system. Good combat system. Good PK system. Very fun quests with very useful rewards. Nice players and helpful Wizards. Extremly detailed. - Not a ton of players. (come try it and fix this!) You may have noticed that there is only 1 neg. I'm telling you, this mud rocks. I can't say enough about the simpleness of guild selection and skill use and just the general user friendlyness of the game. Rock it.
Everdark is a place of constant challenge and ever changing struggles that will keep you up late at night trying to figure out. This highly addictive environment give ones a sense of belonging, even at your early stages of existence. I highly recommend this MUD for all that it offers, and encourage all to run around Ivory Village for a bit, even just to pop in and say hello!
When I first ventured into the realm of text based gaming I spent a lot of time starting characters that only lasted a month or two if even that long. Even to this day I can't stay on any mud long enough to build a well developed character because I just can't stay away from Everdark. There is very little that I have not done in the realm as a whole but at the same time its just as enjoyable now as it ever was. Every time I complete the next full or mini quest very little time goes by before a new adventure is set before me. Trust me when I say that this place has a little bit of everything. The quests are more developed then any I have ever seen. They are built in a way that stimulates the mind to a level you could never imagine. With 9 very distinct guilds, 17 quests, and numerous minis theres always something to do. And even when your not engulfed in these wonderful quests there are enough lands and mobs to explore that you'll never get bored. Most PK/house systems are restricted to the point of being pretty much worthless...not here. Yeah we all know dieing sucks after putting so much time and effort into building a character but for some all that time and effort is for only one purpose. To become a member of a house and protect them at all costs. Aside from actualy gameplay my fellow players have been more helpful then any I have ever come into contact with. The playerbase along with the number of very helpful wizards have made this place more then it could have ever been alone. These people have become more then just some person on the other end of the game. Most have become very close friends. So if you want to play a mindless game full of nothing but boring quests, underdeveloped lands, and unimpressive combat action go somewhere else. If you want everything a multi-user dungeon should be. Come check us out.
I have played Everdark since 1996. I have played a few other MUDs but have never left Everdark because their basically is no other MUD that compares. There are so many things to do even after almost 10 years I still havent completed all of the quests. I suggest everyone give it a try. The Player Killing is the most attractive to me. The stratgic plans of war and attempts to overthrow powerful houses is very cool.
Everdark is a an awesome MUD, I have been playing for around 8 years and can say that it is my favorite mud (and I've played many) The whole mud is very well thought out. Some quests are mandatory but there are also a great deal of side/mini quests all of which offer something new to the player, skills, special items, ext.. There is a house/clan system in place for higher level players, the house's really do a lot for the realm. The PK system on everdark is great, allowing players who have a problem with others to solve problems with their swords. It is well balanced and takes some practice to get good. There is a nobility system where players can engage in the politics of the realm should you so desire. Players on Everdark are generally very helpful to new characters and there are even Newbie Nurturers who have the specific task of getting newbies on there way. The wizards are always working on new area's and quests so one never gets to a stand still with the game, I myself have still yet to solve many of the puzzles and there is always something new to be discovered. Come check it out for yourself!
Everdark is a highly detailed world that has been around for well over a decade, evolving into a home for many players. Its 9 guilds, each with its own abilities, grant the ability to be different from others, by choosing to be a bard, or a ranger, or undead, or any of the other 6 guilds available. Learnable skills increase the flexibility of one's character. Special items can be requested, such as pets or unique weapons, with enough gold. There is a nobility system for those interested in politicking, and guilds are run by player-side Guildmasters and wizard-side Patrons, for those who wish to dedicate themselves to their guild. There is also a house system, generally closely-tied players with similar interests, often as close or closer than family. Finally a playerkilling system, known as Xalinteron, exists for those interested in fighting more than just npc mobs. Stop by, look around, take a trip through Ari's garden. Stay if you like what you see. There is more to Everdark than what I have mentioned here, but I cannot put everything I know here, as I have played there for about a decade now.
I've lived in the realm of EverDark for some 14 or so years now. The realm itself is extremely in-depth and even over my long stay I still have yet to uncover all that is hidden within. The commited player and wizard base drives the realm and those new to the game are quickly integrated and find themselves hungry to help build the realm both politically and architecturally. What is gained is directly proportionate to what is given. Until recently, the nobility consisted soley of players devoted to political intrigue, the reforming of laws, the debating of views, but all has changed with the introduction of an npc blindly focused on imposing his vision upon the lands. The past years have been plagued with humanoid attacks on the villages and the very foundation of the nobility, castle SilverSpire. It is his intent to rid the realm of its squabling council and Monarch and place himself upon the throne. Even those situated in the darkness and evils of EverDark are unwilling to be ruled by such a tyrant. This aspect of the game alone is enough to give players plenty to focus on. With 9 guilds to choose from: Undead, Bard, Rogue, Mage, Illusionist, Ranger, Fighter, Cleric and Adventurer, players have endless choices for skills and enhanced roleplay. Not all Undeads are evil, not all Clerics are good. As well, the religion and language systems allow one to further build the mask of illusion and immerse themselves in the realm. Further, the house system provides a medium for like minded individuals to band together and find a strength in numbers. Each house has the ability to admit 40 players and once a house has grown strong it too can impose its views upon others allowing opportunity for alignment and warring. Level advancement is simply broken down to one task, questing. There are currently 16 listed quests ranging in difficulty from a few days to a few months of work. Unlisted mini-quests as well provide new skills and items not related to your guild, but are not requirements for level advancement. It is my belief that EverDark is the best mud, hands down, and you can easily see for yourself by logging in as a guest. Feel free to ask me for quick answers to the simple questions of learning how to interact with your surroundings. As well, there are qualified newbie helpers and a mentor system to guide you until you become familiar. Get started now, EverDark awaits you!
When you first step foot into Ivory Village you will be welcomed into a realm of extraordinary detail and depth. One of the aspects of Everdark that sets it apart from many others is the extensive interaction one can have with the environment. The time and energy put into it by its creators is immediately evident and you can put the same energy into your own description and history to role-play the character of your imagination. Beyond the joys of exploring this new world, you have the opportunity to join one of nine different guilds (Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Illusionist, Mage, Ranger, Rogue or Undead) each with unique skill sets. Discover the one that suits your style and personality. As you adventure throughout the realm you must solve puzzles and enter into grand quests for glory. These are not for the faint of heart or easily frustrated, but the rewards are great for those who persevere. Cheating is strictly forbidden but assistance is available from the wizardry when you need a nudge in the right direction. Beyond the day-to-day advancement and questing, Everdark has an unparalleled peerage system in its Nobility. The Nobility gives players the opportunity to obtain extra abilities and fosters the role-playing environment for upper level characters. If political intrigue interests you, you may want to try it. As well as becoming a Noble, players can ally with one another in player-run houses. Good, evil or neutral, if there isn’t a house you like you can create your own. Joining the house system can involve PVP although it is not a requirement, but houses are the cornerstone of player alliances and great wars are fought between them. I hope to see you there.
Everdark. Its 17 listed/required quests and large ever growing number of mini-quests offer a range of intellectual challenge from very easy to very complex. (As in pulling out your hair, cursing the day you were born, gonna run out and execute a few people just for breathing... well you get the picture ;)) Its pk system is more in line with something you would find in a video game in that it depends far more on your familiarity with the realm, hand speed and gameness than your ability script or make elaborate triggers. (Neither of which are "legal" if they do much beyond highlight text and so on.) So running into a 10 year old with hand me down "kill anything in my path" scripts they didn't write and losing all your gear is far less of a consideration than other places I've been if you decide to take up this challenging aspect of play. Role play. Limited only by the depth of your imagination. The realm itself offers several building blocks in an effort to facilitate this most challenging and rewarding aspect of mudding. Such as a player based and largely controlled central nobility, a diverse "house" system to find or create your place in the realm as you see fit, rentable rooms and/or even more permanent places to get a little privacy such as private manors or leased apartments. Everdark offers some very flexible features like no limit on the number of deaths you take before you have to start all over again. You can change your stats around at will rather than only being able to set them once, which allows you to change guilds if you like without having to start over, and if you find yourself painted into a corner and want to start over you needn't do more than visit a certain imp and change your name and/or gender leaving all your quest completions intact. The only real downsides are the required quests for level which can be a real pain as mid to high levels are required for a few things like joining to the nobility or joining/founding a house. If you are not the questing type and would rather just socialize this puts a real crimp in how far you can go and what role play devices you have access to. The other major downside is starting naked every time the realm reboots. While this only happens every 20+ days or so, given the difficulty of some items to get i find spending several hours (on average) repeating quests to gear back up while competing with others for healing/quest items and/or basic gear terminally boring. Everdark is an impressively complete realm to adventure in when it comes to 'looking' around at the details as nearly every single noun in every single room is accounted for and there are very very few (less than 100 or so that you could label as...) stock/generic rooms with inherited looks that have no as...

I've been a part of Everdark since the day it opened. It is a very large and robust world with depth of descriptive detail and creative interaction with npcs. I really like the class/guild system... there are ten to choose from and each is very unique. There are lots of quests and miniquests to play with. The advanced quests have some very killer items to play with. PK is optional but more than 75% of the advanced players opt-in for PK. You can join a house/clan or form your own and go to war with other clans. Come and check it out!
