Star Wars: Dark Forces RPG has had a long history. Emperor Palpatine was defeated at Endor thirty-five years ago, thrown into the Abyss by Darth Vader. Now the Yuuzhan Vong, a race from another galaxy, hope to conquer and enslave all. The Empire has been reborn as the Imperial Alliance, trying to stop the Vong while at the same time attempting to establish order in the galaxy. The New Republic is crumbling, its members leaving to join the Imperial Alliance or being killed by the Vong. Many small factions have risen, hoping to end the chaos which has come about hte galaxy. Are you ready to serve the Empire or save the crumbling Republic? Or perhaps there might be profit to make as a self-server. Nevertheless, this is a time of Dark Forces. This is very popular MUD which has grown tremendously, with all original zones and original programming. Roleplay is encouraged here, and rewarded if done. The immortals participate in the events of the game, but it is the mortals that shape our history. Give us a try, and you will see that you have a new addiction.

One of the first and few Star Wars MUDs out there, Dark Forces RPG has been around for many years. All completely original rooms, eight classes to choose from, 140+ Force powers, 70+ skills -- all wrapped up in a very well designed and organized package. Unlike many other MUDs out there, Dark Forces RPG is based solely on one theme -- Star Wars and only Star Wars (quite accurately, our zones are built with research on the Star Wars realm). Many MUDs out there are created with lack of care. Our zones, equipment, and combat system are extremely organized and pleasing to the eye. You will find the unique style of this game is carefully thought out, offering heavy interaction between players and player-versus-player action, with plenty of roleplaying. Our staff is professional and very talented. Thirty-five years after the Battle of Endor and the fall of Emperor Palpatine, the galactic war between the alien Yuuzhan Vong race continues to rage. Former Imperial Admiral, Arkane Maithal, takes over the tiny Imperial Remnant. By unlocking the secrets of the Dark Side, Arkane proclaims himself as the Dark Emperor. During a covert experiment, a super toxin has been discovered by the Imperials that could wipe out the Yuuzhan Vong. Because of this threat, many of the Yuuzhan Vong now uneasily serve Emperor Arkane Maithal under the New Empire. During these disturbing times, the Republic has to brace itself for collapse. Are you ready to serve the Empire or save the crumbling Republic? Or perhaps there might be profit to make as a self-server -- a bounty hunter, a kind doctor, or a humble mechant perhaps? No matter what, this is a time of Dark Forces. The possibilities are limitless. [3]

Dark Forces RPG is a tremendously fun and addictive MUD. It has wonderfully unique and well written areas, all with a very Star Wars feel to them. Ten different classes, 16 races, as well as 13 various personality traits are there to help you create as unique a character as possible. There are over 300 powers and skills evenly balanced over the classes and many of the more difficult areas depend on grouping with different class players to explore them. Some of the powers include: clairvoyance, chain lightning, force pull, morph and persuade. While some of the skills include: ambush, faith, lightsaber mastery, condemn and paralyze. Dark Forces has all the force classes including Jedi, Dark Jedi, and Shadow Jedi while also delving deeper into the Star Wars universe to come up with the Jensaarai. It has a simple yet complete combat system which many of the players have commented appreciatively on, as well as a number of advanced features like an extensive faction creation system, player shops, the ability to learn additional powers from books and much much more. Dark Forces has a small, but well developed, playerbase and many committed and helpful staff members who are incredibly dedicated to the game. New worlds and areas are constantly being added and all the changes in the game follow player input closely. If you like Star Wars, look no further than this mud.

A good Star Wars mud is hard to find. Many muds that take the theme are only so so or generally distasteful. This is one of the few that has been standing for a few years with continous changes and updates by its SINGLE coder and variety of builders. The ease of the skills and classes turn the game into more than just a mud. Many of its veteren players have been there from the start, still addicted to the massive world and all it has to offer. The game is divided into several classes which include: medics, soldiers, spies, outlaws, and scouts. For those who want to feel the Force side of the game there are also: Jedi, Dark Jedi, Shadow Jedi, Monks, and the mystic Jensaarai. Each class has their own system of growth and equipment which enables each player to be uniquely defined by his or her way of playing. The world is centered around the bare planet of Tatooine in the city of Mos Eisley where most of the player base gather to trade or group to explore the rest of the galaxy. The newbie friendly atmosphere and the excellent help files make it easy for any new player to start. Once you achive the highest level, you are granted the option to change your class and start over at level one but you also have the option of choosing a few skills from your previous class gives you more of an edge over other players. All in all, this mud is well balanced and newbie friendly for those who wish to take on a highly addictive Star Wars atmosphere.

Along time ago in a galaxy far, far away... I played this MUD that was absolutely fantastic. Though quite limited, it was still a well built world that made it an extremely addictive game. Time passed and that particular MUD went the way of the buffalo. But like the Phoenix rising up from the ashes (I loves me some old, tired cliches), a new game (quite obviously at least loosely based on the aforementioned one) was made available to lucky Star Wars, RPG, and MUD fans. This MUD was amazing! It was HUGE! Numerous planets; most with tons of areas to explore. A vast variety of mobs to interact with, objects to experiment with, etc., etc. This MUD, "Star Wars: Dark Forces" was every bit as addictive as its assumed predecessor, but obviously a billion times better in every way. After playing nearly religiously, I am now an IMM and contribute to the building of new areas (fully equipped with new mobs and objects) for players to explore. This, is another wonderful aspect of "Dark Forces". It is constantly being expanded and upgraded with improvements being introduced (along with the necessary playerwipe) on a fairly consistent basis. What more could a MUD player want!?

I've been playing Dforces (Dark Forces) for quite a while now, and I'm still hooked. There are lots of unique classes, with another well on it's way, and even more races, giving each player a lot of customization over what it is that they want to be. Roleplaying is encouraged, but not enforced. However, it is well-advised that players use the 'ooc' command to speak out of character, not just normal speech. Also, the game is constantly evolving, with a lot of new skills/powers being added, whilst keeping the classes balanced. This, as well as a lot of devoted players keeps the game going, with a lot of good infomation, and help for any noobs that log on. The game has an extensive helpfile, with helpfiles on everything in the game, usually with several different words to access each file, such as 'help god' or 'help implementor' for instance. This allows noobs to access help on almost anything quickly. Unfortunately the size of the playerbase is dwindling. It is (in my opion) not being advertised enough, and those who leave (for whatever reason) are not being replaced by others. This has resulted in an average of about 5 people on at slow times, and 15 people on at peak times. Quite different from what it used to be, but I believe that will soon change, as we are getting ready for a new generation, at which everyone starts fresh, giving noobs and veteran players alike an equal chance at being powerful. This keeps the game balanced, and helps restrict the amount of 'super-players' that are running around at any one time. As for a Pking system, it is restricted, as you can not steal everything from a corpse. There is a maximum item limitation, and there are things to discourage it, such as a bounty system. This means less rampant Pkers, but there are still always opportunities for the powerful. Also, the Immortals interact with the players on a day-to-day basis. This means that you can have most of your questions answered, and that they listen to your ideas about what needs changing. If you are going to start playing, the thing that will probably put you off is the lack of colour for you, well have no fear! Simply type: 'prompt &R %h(%H) &G %f(%F) &C %v(%V) &B %t %o %_ (%X) &Y (%c) %_>' and you will alter your presentation of stats to solour and offer some helpful things to stop you having to look at the score menu every five minutes. If you don't like this prompt, look up 'help prompt' to see what changes you can make to alter it to your liking. So please, join in with the game, and help us destroy the New Republic, or crush the mighty Empire. You may make all the difference!

I found Dforces back in late 2000 (I think), and I've been playing pretty much ever since. They have a constantly evolving game system, with new things being added on an almost daily basis. This results in a game that doesn't get boring, and has a constantly growing playerbase. They have multiple, well-thought-out classes and they're all quite well-balanced. Also, the immortals are more than willing to talk to players and listen to their concerns. This results in a game that is playable as well is true to the Star Wars Lore. Recently, in the way of major changes, there have been several new classes added (with another on its way) as well as a lot of new area recently added. Most of all, it's true to the Star Wars Universe, and, being set after the films, has no problems with making up it's own story-line. This story-line is usually made not only by the Immortals, but by the Players as well. A good game to play if you want some input in how it's run and how to make it better. In real life, it's not often one person can change the world, in Dforces, it happens all the time.

Star Wars: Dark Forces is a great mud that gets less players than it deserves. Running on a CircleMUD codebase, most new players come on for a few minutes and leave straight away, due to it's lack of fruity colours. The truth is about this mud, is that it's features make up for it's other bad points. The start may appear hard, but there's often somebody willing to help a new player. Here is a few of the features I've selected out: - 9 classes (Jedi, Dark Jedi, Shadow Jedi, Outlaw, Soldier, Monk, Scout, Medics, Spies) - 16 races - perfectly balanced; for every good skill one class might have, the other will have stuff to make up for it - Factions (player run) - A Jedi, Dark Jedi, or Shadow Jedi can make their own lightsaber, searching for parts themselves. - Hundreds of weapons - Hundreds of eq pieces - Friendly players Now I can't list every feature this mud offers, but it is a great mud, and it is a good idea to go there and check it out to see for yourself. Just one thing. Don't give up straight away, play for a day at least, it just gets better and better. eddie.rpg-works.net:5000 (if that address doesn't work try:) dforces.net:5000 thank you, and please play, it's a great mud but it may die out without YOUR support.

This game is pretty sweet. If you're prepared to have immortals insult your intelligence then by all means play this game. In all honesty though, it's a great game passed the people. It's a small community so everyone has really tight bonds usually. The only downside to that is that you may find yourself depending on someone you hate for help. This MUD is very original and extremly addicting unfortunatly, that's bad cause it causes a lot of stress sometimes. If you don't mind stupid people arguing with you then this is definitly a game for you.

This mud is great. The leveling system is quite easy early on, but gets very challenging later. And even after you attain the highest level there's still more to do. There's several classes available, and many ways to make them unique. Stats, traits, race, etc. With several types of skills and powers, it adds alot of variation to the game. The galaxy itself is always expanding, so there's tons of places to explore. Role playing is encouraged, but not required. Most factions perform role playing among themselves. The immortals don't interfere much with the player population, but govern the general store line of the mud. This wasn't so true in the past, but that's how it is currently. Also, since there was a player wipe recently, everyone has an equal chance to try to create the strongest character.

Star Wars: Dark Forces is a game that's brought me back time and time again, but I'm afraid it seems to have lost all the grandeur it once had. It doesn't look like there's been an update for months, in terms of the code or the areas in game. The skills that weren't implemented a year ago still don't exist and for a game that's listed as newbie friendly, there is very little newbie help as you are thrown right into the game and expected to find an area to exp on your own. The playerbase has dwindled to a max of three people on at a time, when there used to be upwards of 20 at 3 am. I was wondering why as I played the past few days, and then my question was answered when the owner logged on and began to rudely criticize my choice of names. He swore, very lewdly at that, over the public channel and then silenced me so that I couldn't reply. The game itself is very fun, with a unique world despite its lack of changes. However, the rude immortal staff and severe lack of game updates has turned what was once a great MUD into just another repetitive Star Wars game.
MudConnector.Com Review (Archived) by on Dec 11, 2004
Not the most impressive MUD, immortals are perhaps around young to mid teens from what I could gather before watching them start to mock and kill new players. A collective waste of time and resorces.

This mud use to be fantastic, but that is no longer the case. While the game has made some technical improvements (i believe kras is to thank for that), the new player admin (no longer arkane) is a terrible ass. I would encourage people to find another mud in order to avoid the pompass admin that is now in place.

I have played many many MUD's and this is by far one of THE best ones I have ever experienced. The admins and players are friendly and help new players land on their feet, and the way it continues the star wars legacy is amazing, although a few draw backs are noticed..but nothing that won't make the game even more fun and challenging. If you are even remotely into text based games, then you will absolutely love this one. I still play Dark Forces to this very day, why don't you drop in and say hi?

I've been playing muds for a long time now, and during this time I've played dozens of muds from all different genre. DarkForces is fun, fast paced, and put together well. There are a few draw backs, as in the player base, but that is changing as more and more people are finding out how fun this game is to play. If you are into muds I assure you that DarkForces is tops in the fun factor. It is unique yet easy to learn and very addictive. I'd give it a 9/10 on my mud scale!

Dark Forces RPG is one of the greatest muds you will ever play, and one of the most addictive to! It will blow you away with the fun fast-paced helpful players. The world is so detailed and great! It just keeps expanding! The immortals are very nice and considerate. If your looking to play a good qaulity mud.. This is it. Best mud I have ever played out of many. You should play!

I played Dark Forces for about a year and half now. I enjoy this game very much for several reasons. It is a small community, with strong social circles, which adds more involvement to rping and pking. The game stresses grouping and communication, which I like very much. The game is also based solely on Star Wars, but in an original time setting, which allows room for flexibility. What I love is the unique, quality work and formatting construction of the items and rooms. The items look very cool, but nothing ridiculous insane. Sometimes the immortals do get a bit unhelpful tho, they ignore you often, but I guess all immortals are busy up there. The game offers eight classes, shadow jedi being my favorite. The concepts in this game are very unique, I'm impressed by both the coding and building. All in all, I've never been so addicted to a game like this.
TopMUDSites.Com Review by on Dec 16, 2003
I've been playing this mud since it first came out and it was interesting to see all the changes it has gone through. It incorporated many things other star wars muds didn't, such as a separate class for shadow jedi, and others like a medic and monk etc. It still has a while to go I guess, but I read the reviews for it and noticed that some of them are right. This mud is pretty newbie friendly. However, it is not for the faint of heart. You could very easily get killed by making the wrong enemies. All together though, the mud has very nice organization and mechanics, which is part of the reason I still play it.

I started playing Dark Forces at the beginning of 2003, after their third playerwipe. I am most impressed with this game. There are very few games that can be so neat and organized. The rooms are built with much care and organization and makes movement and reading very easy to the eyes. I like the uniformity of the game, yet uniqueness of the environment. There are tons of places I have yet to explore in this galaxy, and I can't wait. I have been addicted since, and I continue to try to become the all powerful Dark Jedi Master. What's also impressive about this game is the care and time they take to put data into the website (www.dforces.com), with a very pleasing layout. I love how the game accurately reflects Star Wars knowledge, although set in the future after the movies and books, which allows room for story flexibility. This game is better than any SWR out there, all of those are messy. This game keeps up the SW feeling while being very organized and maintained with proper care. The community is small and mostly friendly (although there are the share of pk bastards) of about 18 players at a time on average. I also love how the two main clans are the Imperials and new Republic and are run by the immortals. That's the thing, the admin interact and RP with you all the time, which makes it fun. If only there were a couple more quests in this game, but all in all I give this game 9/10 out of all the muds ive played. This is a definitely a home for me now.

It's been almost one year since I've started playing Dark Forces RPG. This game is just plain great. 10 out of 10. Although it the galaxy seems small after playing for a long time, it promotes excellent interaction. There are cities all over different planets, but Mos Eisley is the heart of everything, and players gather there all the time. The best part of the game is the programming. It is superbly unique. They have original ideas, skills, and powers. All the zones are unique (you don't see no funky Midgaard thing, Mos Eisley is an original zone). There are no stupid weird items like 'the super-duper killing weapon'. Everything is formatted neatly and grammatically correct. It makes it look very professional and organized. There are tons of socials in the game which make it really fun. Best of all, the immortals actually rp and interact with you, and they are not distant zombies. They lead factions (clans) like the Empire and the New Republic which players join and RP in. And the factions, since are officially organized by the staff, are taken seriously and there's a serious hierarchy of command. Playerkilling isn't rampant (although there are one or two constant morons in the game) and is heavily enforced (by both real rules, the immortals, and game mechanics such as the bounty system). It is based purely on Star Wars, the most accurate I've ever seen. The head administrator, Arkane, is very serious about work, yet he is hilarious and friendly when he's not doing work-related stuff. What I like is you can ignore other idiot's tells, and the mass communication system (broadcast) is limited to once per minute so you don't see onslaught of messages. They keep it simple, there are no thousands of channels. Just two. For auctions, they auction unique items not loaded in the game on a public computer terminal (not an annoying channel) which are supervised by the imms. Fun stuff. This is a great game, where you can 'activate' your lightsabers and select from 6 different classes. (There are planning to have 11 classes). They are always adding more gooodies in the game, I love it all. Play it for a week and you'll know why this game deserves to be addicted to. You just HAVE to. A+++++++++

I am the administrator for Dark Forces MUD and I would just like to say that Dark Forces has come a long way. I started as a mortal and then worked as an immmortal on an old MUD Rebellion, which eventually broke off into Dark Forces, after some immortal issues. Dark Forces is now purely based on Star Wars, and has a lot of advanced programming. The zones are completely original. Role-play is heavy. As for playerkilling, it's completely allowed, but people seldomly pk due to the roleplay affections. It's small, but we're young. We are also hiring skilled builders and coders. We hope you come on and enjoy!
